67 DAYS TRAVELS FROM CAPE TOWN TO CAIRO FOR EDUCATION

An educational documentary through Africa from Cape Town to Cairo, told for the first time by young black South Africans.

Overview

We are  4 South Africans and 1 American (travelled with us up to Botswana), who believe in the bigger vision of uniting Africa and providing hope and inspiration, through education, to the next generation for the future of Africa and our world. Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s declaration on his birthday that everyone should spend 67 minutes giving back to others, we decided to take this to another level and pledged to spend 67 days traveling from Cape Town To Cairo overland spreading compassion and promoting unity, whilst putting together a documentary about our journey.

Our Goal

Our goal is to build 10 Free Technical and Vocational Education and Training Colleges (TVETs), 1 in each of the countries we have visited, using 100% recycled materials by 2029. Our first 67 Day journey from Cape Town to Cairo overland is designed as a research project to identify communities in need of educational assistance. Along the way we have been documenting our experiences from a perspective of non judgement, whilst integrating and staying with the many accepting and beautiful communities we have been lucky enough to meet. The laughter, the tears, the smiles, the frowns, the heartache, the struggles and the utter beauty that radiates from every country, city, town and village we have been to, has inspired us more than we could have ever imagined and we want to share that with the world.

Our Journey

Our journey began in South Africa at Ngobi Village, Hammaskraal, where community members identified land where the school is going to be built. After this initial land was identified, our official 67 Day journey commenced and our ambitious initiative was launched in Cape Town, 18 July 2018.Through each country we travel through, our intention is to share the values and beliefs of one of the world’s most peaceful and powerful icons, Nelson Mandela, whilst promoting love and unity for the world. In return the countries we visit show us compassion in their own way. The kindness of complete strangers in foreign places has been one of the most humbling and inspirational part of this journey for all of us. When we have thought that we wouldn't find a place to stay or food to eat, the beautiful people of Africa come to the rescue and shower us with love and compassion. In Botswana we were fortunate enough to travel by Land Rover. While this heightened the experience it was not without its own challenges. At one point we broke down in a national park and were helped by local people to get going again. It served as another example of the kindness shown by complete strangers towards our journey.
