"Cameras for Coporaque" is a project aimed at providing a group of children in the small town of Coporaque, Peru, with cameras and photography skills to enable them to record and reflect on the reality of rural, village life in their country.
Coporaque is a small, agricultural village on the edge of the Colca Canyon, where luxuries such as cameras are not a reality of every day life for the children who live there.
The idea of the project is to show Peruvian life through a child's eyes as well as giving the children themselves an opportunity to express themselves creatively and develop a sense of ownership and responsibility.
We will be visiting Coporaque each weekend for the next two months as part of our voluntary work with Intiwawa (www.intiwawa.org) - a charity aimed at providing support and activities for vulnerable and underprivileged children in Arequipa and it's surroundings. We currently run English classes, computer classes and teach children about values, rights and responsibilities as well as providing the children with a healthy meal. This photography project will form part of a new set of activities aimed at the older children in the village.
Your donation will go towards buying cameras for the children as well as helping towards printing costs and the eventual creation of an exhibition to display the photographs in Coporaque, Peru and then, at a later date, at an exhibition in England.
If donations go over the amount that we are aiming for, the extra money that we raise will go towards improving the project further, offering the children extra activities or broadening the photography project to include more children in the area. We just need 40 people to donate £10 to reach our goal!!
In return for this donation, you can choose to receive a printed copy of one of the photographs taken by the children themselves or can choose between a few other items that will feature the children's photos, such as note books and tote bags.
You will be able to choose from a selection of photographs, which will be displayed online in a few months time and these will be printed and sent to you when we return to the UK.

"Cameras for Coporaque" es un proyecto con la intencÃon de comprarles unas camaras a los niños del pueblo pequeño de Coporaque, Perú, para que puedan documentar la realidad de la vida rural en su pais.
Coporaque es un pueblo pequeño y agricultura en los bordes del Cañon del Colca donde lujos como las cámaras no forman parte de la vida diaria.
La idea del proyecto es mostrar la vida Peruana desde el punto de vista de los niños y, a la vez, dándoles la oportunidad de expresarse creativamente y desarrollar un sentido de responsabilidad y independencia.
Estaremos visitando Coporaque cada fin de semana para los dos siguientes meses como parte de nuestro trabajo voluntariado con Intiwawa (www.intiwawa.org) una ONG que da apoyo y organiza actividades para niños vulnerables y desfavorecidos en Arequipa y sus alrededores. Damos clases de Ingles, clases de computación y hablamos con los niños sobre valores, sus derechos y responsabilidades. También les ofrecemos una comida sana. Este proyecto fotográfico formará parte de un programa de actividades para los niños mayores del pueblo.
Su donación será utilizado para comprar las cámaras para los niños y también para los gastos de imprimir las fotos y eventualmente la creación de una exposición en Coporaque, Perú y luego en Inglaterra.
En cambio por su donación podrán recibir una copia imprimada de una de las fotos sacadas por los niños. Podrán escoger de una selección de fotos, las cuales mostraremos por Internet una vez realizado el proyecto. Las fotos serán imprimadas y enviadas a nuestra vuelta a Inglaterra.
