Ukraine "Holodomor" Genocide

Donation protected
Holodomor: otherwise known as the Ukrainian Genocide; was a man-made famine imposed by Stalin onto the people of Ukraine from 1932-1933.

What was once refered to as the "bread basket" of the Soviet Union, known for its fertile soil and abundance of wheat, Ukraine was decimated and obliterated of its dignity and pride through the genocide.

At its height, Holodomor claimed the lives of 17 people per minute, or 25,000 people per day. The famine caused between 7-10 million men, women, and children to perish.

Power-hungry and corrupt Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union, set in motion events designed to cause a famine in Ukraine to destroy the people there seeking independence from his rule.

The starvation quickly ensued throughout Ukraine, with the most vulnerable, children and the elderly, first feeling the effects of malnutrition. The once-smiling young faces of children vanished forever amid the constant pain of hunger. It gnawed away at their bellies, which became grossly swollen, while their arms and legs became like sticks as they slowly starved to death.

Mothers in the countryside sometimes tossed their emaciated children onto passing railroad cars traveling toward cities such as Kiev in the hope someone there would take pity. But in the cities, children and adults who had already flocked there from the countryside were dropping dead in the streets, with their bodies carted away in horse-drawn wagons to be dumped in mass graves. Occasionally, people lying on the sidewalk who were thought to be dead, but were actually still alive, were also carted away and buried.

The long awaited unveiling of the Holodomor memorial will be held on November 7th, 2015  in Washington D.C.

The U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodomor Genocide Awareness, has been very busy planning to ensure that this historic event is a solemn, dignified and elegant tribute to the millions of victims of Stalin's terror.  The unveiling weekend will include the multidenominational blessing and unveiling,  a memorial concert at Georgetown University's historic Gaston Hall and Holodomor exhibit at the Union Station.  As you can imagine, the costs associated with an event of this magnitude are extensive.

Following the unveiling of the memorial, our ongoing projects will continue to include:  printing informational brochures; integrating information about the Ukrainian Genocide into U.S. high school curricula; and campaigning to achieve recognition of the Holodomor by the U.S. Congress and Administration as a genocide.

These efforts require a prodigious amount of work and a budget to match.

The U.S. Committee for Ukrainian Holodomor Genocide Awareness continues to commemorate and gain awareness for this tragic event, we kindly ask you to join our efforts and do the same by donating to this cause.

Thank you very much!
