Bake Sale Because My Ex Is An Ass

Donation protected

My partner was recently offered a DREAM job working for Wizards of the Coast. It's basically everything we've ever wanted in life and we could not be more excited. The problem is this requires a huge relocation from Texas to Washington. We've been working our butts off to save as much money as we can to put towards living expenses and we were actually mostly good. It was going to be tight but we were going to get there.

Then we got a call from the agency we were trying to rent a house from. Apparently I have a collection on my rental history from 2010 that I knew nothing about. At the last apartment my ex and I lived in I moved out a month before he did and he was supposed to handle all the moving out stuff. Since I didn't hear anything from him or the apartment complex about it I figured everything was fine.

Turns out it wasn't. After speaking with the apartment complex I discovered that there was a charge for $1071 worth of damages which is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard and I can't even believe that it's a thing. We contacted the collection agency and they'll settle for $871 which we have to pay in full before they'll take if off of my rental history and we can't get approved for any rentals at all until it's taken off of my history.

We paid the $871 which allows us to not be homeless when we get to Washington in two weeks but now we're short on being able to pay for everything else (the moving truck, the first month's rent at the new place, and so forth). We're scrambling. We're selling everything that can fetch a price and begging from friends and family and that's all helpful but we we figured we'd give this a shot because right now we need every single dime we can muster.

So we're doing a bake sale! You get your choice of baked goods from the following list.

Cookies: chocolate chip, peanut butter, snickerdoodles, chocolate, oatmeal raisin, or butter
Brownies: plain, cheesecake, peanut butter, or with walnuts
Candy Bars: I make this fancy candy bar that's a combination of dark and white chocolate filled with bacon and cherries that was inspired by a milkshake. You can experience the joy that is this creation!

Since I'm not above shameless heartstring pulling here's some cute pictures of our adorable toddler who will be moving with us and is very excited to never have to live in another Texas summer again :)
