Help Me and My Child Start Over

Donation protected
I need your help. I am the soon-to-be single mother of a child on the autistic spectrum. I’m moving me and my child 1700 miles from Texas to Minnesota to make a new start away from my alcoholic husband. His drinking is affecting my already vulnerable daughter and I need to give her the best chance of success away from a destructive domestic situation.

Although I spent 3 years serving my country in the Army during the first Gulf war, my training as a Bio-medical repair technician is very out of date. Luckily I have a talent for textile arts, and this is what I’m going to build our future on. I’m no stranger to starting again having moved to Texas from Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina knocked us for a loop.

I am planning to move back to my home town where my friends and family are, and will set up a business creating home and bridal textile goods. I have the skills. What I need are funds to relocate, buy a house with enough studio space to work, and purchase equipment and raw materials. I can get a loan through the VA eventually, but this move needs to happen quickly, and with no provable income at the moment, that would be impossible. I’ve tried.

Taken by my daughter on our last visit to MN.

This move will accomplish several things:

It will get me out of a destructive relationship with a recently relapsed alcoholic.

It will put my daughter in a better school environment. They have excellent IEP programs, a quieter environment, and better student to teacher ratio.

It will allow me to spend time with my grandmother who has Alzheimer’s and Dementia. She raised me from the age of two and and I owe my determination and love of art to her.

It will allow me to spend time with and assist my best friend from High School, who has been diagnosed with Dystonia and is having a hard time. She will be my first employee, health and interest permitting.

A breakdown of the spending goes as follows in order of priority: $7000 for movers and people/pets transportation.
$3,000 will go towards raw goods and studio equipment, advertising, and if there is enough left over, a car and a small savings trust towards my daughter’s future education. She is socially awkward, but brilliant. She wants to go into computer programming, but I do not think she could navigate the current student loan environment without going into a lifetime of debt.

I would love for this to happen before August 31st, as my daughter could get settled in before the new school year starts, but am willing to move before the full goal is met, provided I can find a place to land.

Thank you for your time.
