Diabetic Alert Dog for Brooke

Donation protected

Hello everyone! After years of emergency room visits, overnight stays and off days, a Diabetic Alert Dog will give me the ease of not worrying about high and low sugar complications. My name is Brooke Sikorski I suffer from type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic autoimmune disease. Living with type 1 diabetes has made my life more difficult, but I was not given anything that I could not handle. I like to be very optimistic and happy-go-lucky. I understand that this is a stretch for me, but having a Diabetic Alert Dog will really do wonders for me. I will not have to worry about dying in my sleep, or highs and very low blood sugars when I go to the gym. Living with Type 1 Diabetes is not an easy thing to do. With your help the quaility of my life will greatly improve. Please Consider donating anything to help raise the money to get a service dog that will save my life one day. Thank you <3

Type 1 diabetes is when the pancreas does not give off insulin. Insulin is an important hormone which regulates ones blood sugar. In my case, because the lack of insulin, my blood sugars run high which can lead to serious life threatening complications.  Which is why I used to give insulin injections five times a day daily, insulin is required whenever I am eating any food. Fortunately now I am on an insulin pump. The insulin pump is not by any means a cure. This is why we are here today.

I was diagnosed at age 18, just before joining the United States Air Force. I was not only graduating high school, but I also had to quickly figure out a plan, because all I ever wanted to do was join the military. After my diagnoses I thought about possible life career options and narrowed it down Nursing. Nursing is a great why to put what life threw at me to help others diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I am going to school full time and working full time. I plan on finishing college to be an Registered Nurse to work in Pediatric Endocrinology. Working with young children who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes would be an amazing chance to make a difference in my life and the lives of young children who's lives are drastically changed by this disease.

Now let's talk about DAD. D.A.D. is a diabetic alert dog. These dogs are service dogs for people with type 1 diabetes. These dogs will not only alert when a blood sugar is dangerously high but also dangerously low. These dogs save lives all around the United States, preventing seizures, comas and even death.

I know having a Diabetic Alert Dog will ease all of my worrying about possible complications that come with living with type 1 diabetes. My future DAD will be able to follow me anywhere and everywhere, just as a normal service dog can. This includes nursing school as well as a hospital where she will work as a Registered Nurse. The DAD would also be a lighthearted way to introduce the young type 1 diabetics see will care for to see that living with type 1 diabetes does not have to be a bad thing.
All of the money being raised will go to a DAD, diabetic alert dog, travel to and from and any other expenses associated with getting this life saving D.A.D.

Thank you for all your love and support. Any help and support is appreciated. Please share with your friends and family <3
