Brandon's Artist Residency

Donation protected
Hello lovely people, freinds and family. My name is Brandon Barr and I am an artist currently residing in L.A. For the first time EVER, I have been accepted and plan to attend an artist residency at the Kala Art Institute in Oakland, CA this coming fall. http://www.kala.org/air/air.html Kala is an amazing residency center that allows artists to create new work while using their awesome facilities. There is a massive printmaking studio that allows multiple printing techniques like woodblock and screen printing. There is also an electronic media center that has large format printers, cameras, scanners and editing software. This is where I will be spending most of my time. They even have workshops and classes to learn new techniques!

For those who are not familiar with what an artist residency is, it's basically a place that allows artists the time and space to create and experiment with new work, which is something that can be hard to do in our regular lives with work, school etc. Attending such a residency is something that I have been wanting to do since I began my career as an artist. It is something that can greatly impact my career, and open up new doors for my studio practice. My plan is to create new work for a potential show coming up in L.A., and to experiment with new ideas and processes. The only catch is that it requires a little bit of funding to make it happen. This is where you beautiful people can greatly help me out.

The duration of the residency is two weeks, which means I will not be able to work at my normal job because I live L.A. and the residency is in Oakland. The residency itself also costs and does not include housing. Luckily I will be staying with a friend, but once you add in travel, commute, food and materials costs it evens out at about $3,000. So, that is my goal to reach.

If you are at all interested in supporting the arts and my career as an artist, then by all means consider donating. Every little bit helps! If you cannot donate, no worries, I completely understand (I'm a broke artist!), and you are still cool in my book because you actually read this far into my description. ; ) Thank you sooooo much!

Love,
Brandon
