friends, family, passer-bys-
As you may know, my name is Tucker & I look like this:

I am nearly finished writing my first book. It is a young adult fiction novel about teenage monsters. The story is set about 35 years after a U.S. attempted genocide of all monsters, and follows a few young creatures as they struggle with questions of history, identity, community, embodiment, resistance, healing, and home in the wake of collective and individual traumas.
My aim with this book is to provide a resource for teens who are struggling, who feel like monsters in their bodies, who feel isolated and desirous of community. I am trying to write something that a lot of young people (and people in general!) will be able to see themselves reflected in, and that might offer some sort of comfort, perspective, escape. I'm trying to write the book I wish I had as a struggling and confused teen.
I hope to bind the books myself, and have talked to a few local libraries about donating copies. I also would like to leave a few copies with the North Star, the self-directed learning center for teens that I teach at. I'd also like to be able to give some copies to friends and family! I anticipate making about 50 books, at least at first. That's a sizeable estimate: book binding is hard and laborious work!
I need your help making this book tangible, so I can put it in places that young people will be able to get ahold of it.
This is my first attempt at book binding, so I will need to buy all of the materials for the first time. I've ballparked a number around $500, but anything helps, as there are cheap alternatives to some of the expensive supplies
Alternately, if you have any sort of bookbinding supplies you are happy to part with, that makes an even better donation!
A list of things I need:
-bone folder
-awl
-needles
-waxed thread
-cutting board
-xacto knives/things to shear edges with
-sanding sponge
-PVA glue
-bookboard (enough to bind 50 ~150 pg books)
-book cloth
-book press or materials to make a book press (optional but useful!)
-$ for labor (in case I ask people to help me with this!)
-$ for printing
