Why Not Norwich? Bold As Love Guild

Our goal is to create a physical location to open Bold as Love Guild & Emporium, in our home town of Norwich CT.

This city is rich with a history of innovation and industry, yet is afflicted by a lack of hope, which is a story too common throughout the country. Where once great manufacturing towns have fallen into disarray and the people feel there will be no relief to the negative trends in their community.

In Norwich's case however this is suprising given the wealth of our State and diverse skills of the community. Norwich for sure is not lacking in ability to make itself great again. All it needs is love and inspiration. 

 The positive changes we are all looking for comes from stronger community beliefs which focus on solutions rather than the problem. There are such beacons all over the country, proof of economically decimated cities becoming vibrant hubs of culture. They embrace new industry, technology, they look at new ways of operating. They change the way they think.

The Logistics

Our task isn't easy. We currently lack much of the funds to purchase and rehab this location which is water damaged greatly. There is also numerous other small issues that need to be addressed before we can even begin to look outwards to the city. The money we raise is going towards the loan deposit and construction materials. It is our hope that this building and city, can become our own example to others. Showing the power of positive thinking on local economies. It's a long climb, but a challenge we're ready for.

Phase 1
This part consists of us purchasing the historic 1860's building located at 90 Main St, Norwich CT. During this time we are developing the build plan needed to make this place a vibrant storefront and event space for Artists.

Much of the repairs are focused on the first floor, which has some water damage. This is typical of many buildings located downtown as a result of the natural landscape Norwich was built upon. Rain water runs off of the hills and collects in the small alleyways and ditches behind buildings.

Phase 2
After ensuring the structure won't fall on our heads, Bold As Love will begin rennovating the storefront. Our goal is to finish this part of the building as soon as possible. Allowing us to move on the less pressing issues on the second & third floors. With the storefront complete we will also obtain a solid foundation from which we can begin ways to improve the city around us.

Our intent is to give people a better living doing what they love to do. Giving all of us including yourself that much needed inspiration to build, think, and create. Bold As Love believes this is important in a world that is leaning more towards negativity on the balance scale, where many people have lost faith that they can make any sort of difference. It starts to change through one’s own course of action. You have the power to change the course of your own local community as well as ours, will you use it?

Artisans Guild

The Artisans Guild is the name we have chosen for our community of creators. It's simple, to the point, and conveys a certain sense of old world charm. Like a guild, our group works closely together to support one another in various projects; helping with labor, supplies, consulting, promotions and in so many more ways. Without this support, us little guys couldn't hope to stand against the crashing waves of large multi-national retailers. Besides just making items to sell, the Bold As Love Artisan Guild provides volunteers to music, arts & culture events and many other projects local to our members. This tight network of people is the driving force behind any efforts we achieve as a community - efforts which are aimed at making positive improvements to ourselves and the world around us. Any driven, teamwork-oriented person can join the Bold As Love Artisan Guild, even if you are not a creator of items. We welcome all people to take part in the great community we are growing. You can do this by volunteering, promoting our events & website or even providing a professional service. Our Guild is about interaction and problem solving and is not for those who don’t wish to take charge of their own future or get their hands dirty. In our family, you get what you give, and if love is what you got, then it’s what you’ll get back.

The Emporium

The Emporium itself contains a menagerie of various craftsmen and artists that our team has met over the course of much traveling. Most of the items featured are designed & produced or handmade by a Bold As Love Guild Member. The Emporium also offers a wide range of vintage goods, since we sort of can’t stop collecting great market finds. When purchasing from the Emporium, either vintage or handmade, you're guaranteed to find something unique; while also being reassured your funds go directly to helping a very real person in your greater community, not faceless corporation shareholders. The people creating and sharing here love what they are doing. This love shows in the excitement and energy they put into bringing you something unique. It’s these people who make wondrous artifacts of culture, who give hours of life into their art, who deserve the support. Our Emporium is our way of helping do just that, by giving you a variety of methods to view and access the items our Artisans create.

More importantly, The Emporium is a social hub that gives our members and you a place to discuss, collaborate and build lifelong friendships. This special Emporium of all manner of goods is the foundation upon which we hope you can build a better life for yourself, doing something you love or through being more content that you are making a real difference in someone’s art.
