Solo Ride: Seattle to San Francisco

//THE LOWDOWN

Hey friends, family + internet.

I'm exactly one week away from beginning my solo bike tour. Outbound from Seattle and eyes set on San Francisco 1,000 miles and one month down the road. This has been a long dreamed graduation gift to myself and I'm stoked for every mile of it (quote me on this when I hit my first big climb). I'm reaching out for a little help just so I can reward my ride with good eats (not merely subsist on energy gels + protein bars--yikes), pay for camping, emergency last-minute essential gear, and possibly the occassional hostel/motel room if I'm in a pinch and have to cut the day before I get to a park. This personal campaign will be running until my last day in Seattle, Wed. July 30th.

I am sincerely grateful to everyone who helps me in this adventure -- even if it's just with your moral support. That means so much to me and I thank my friends + family for all their good vibes and love in my training/planning so far.

//MORE ABOUT THE TOUR
I started a

blog

in August when I bought my new (used) touring bike and seriously started preparation for this big summer tour. It'll be an unfathomably incredible experience and definitely not without its challenges. I'm doing this ride for a few reasons:
1) I'm simply happy to be done with college and onto life stuff, and I would like to congratulate myself with adventure, breeze and sweat;
2) When is the next time I'll be able to do this?;
and most of all 3) I want to inspire others to go after what they want. I firmly believe anyone can do anything they put their mind to--if they really, truly want it. This ride will be a little testament to that. And I'm being entirely transparent re: my preparations etc. as written in my blog to prove that it's really just a mind over matter thing. You can have what you want, you just have to get off your ass and go get it. So that's what I'm doing.

//THE DESTINATION OF YO DOLLAS
I still need to buy a few stray bits of touring gear once I get to Seattle (wool cycling socks, a quick drying towel, extra light batteries, etc.). And in addition to that stuff, I'll be using my funding to pay for better meals for myself and any emergencies that may come up, whether they are shelter-related or I need to get professional bike repair done...whatever comes up (fingers crossed that nothing will though!)

Any money made beyond my goal and not used on touring food/shelter, I will donate to the protection of orca whales because I love them a lot and they'll also be cruising through the Pacific Northwest this summer.

//THANK YOU

Again, I sincerely thank you for your moral support and love and encouragement. Doing this solo is thrilling, but I imagine it'll get a little lonely at times. I'm lucky to have great people in my life to think about, call, write to, etc. Thank you all for everything.
