Right now, I’m 11 months sober….
I am writing to you now because I would like to continue to be able to tell you that I’m still sober – alive – for years and years to come.
I’ve been persistently struggling to deal with end stage liver disease and earn the opportunity for a transplant to save me. Every single part of it has been arduous and has been an emotional and financial disaster on many of my family and friends. I've been given so much financial, emotional, spiritual, and lots-of-hugs support. My loved ones and family can only give so much and I'm writing you to help me, To help them help me. To enable me to get the life saving transplant that the amazing staff at MUSC are guiding me towards. Everyone is awesome. <3
The great news is, about 4 weeks ago, I was approved to be on the list of viable candidates to receive a transplant. That list is reserved for those that can most likely survive the surgery, recovery and lifetime maintenance of such a gift.
My present insurance covers some, but not nearly all of the expenses. The biggest hurdle was proving to the hospital that I have friends, family, support and resources to assist me in this process.
I am putting together a fund to raise money for the surgery and related expenses. Those expenses include lodging near the hospital after the transplant, gas back and forth from Charleston to Columbia, numerous lab and doctor appointments, food, medicine, surgery costs and insurance funds. Since I won’t be able to drive or live alone, I will not be able to live independently for a while after the surgery.
I've been fortunate to have an amazingly loving and selfless girlfriend (the angelic Sarah Wooten <3) , who has kept me alive throughout this frightening process. My parents, Donna and Steve, for putting up with me and picking up many of the pieces along the way. I have so many superheroes on my side that I can't begin to express my love to all of them. Not enough space in my bio... :).
Attached are the details of the fundraising associations that will help maximize my chances of success and to be honest….of living.
Any help would be graciously adored and put to the best use. Honestly, absolutely anything is so much appreciated. (gas cards, gift cards, food, supplies….anything!)
