Lilah’s Bakery is a true mom & pop (owned & operated by husband and wife team- Sopan and Lisa Tike). We opened our first location in 2007 in the historic Highland neighborhood, where we also live. This location was extremely popular, but we were forced to close after an electrical fire at our main breaker box outside the back door. Once the repairs were completed, we had a hard time getting customers back to our Highland location. Our Boardwalk location had been open about 8 months by that time, and we decided to devote our attention to this one location. But within a few months customers were asking us to come back to Shreveport. Right now we are operating a food truck, but we are trying to open a new brick & mortar in Shreveport before the upcoming Mardi Gras season.

Mardi Gras is a very important time of year for our bakery as it provides the majority of the income for our family and our employees’ families as well. We sold nearly 10,000 King Cakes last year alone! We have purchased a building to become our permanent King Cake kitchen on Centenary (in Highland) and are currently renovating it.

Why do we need your help?
To this point we have been an entirely self-funded venture and are just now asking for some outside aide. We have given so much of ourselves to make this work and are asking for just a nudge to get us over the hump. As we work to grow our business, it is obvious that we are still very new and are still building our foundation. We are asking for donations, we know the only way we can grow in this community is with your help! All funding will go toward renovating our new building and purchasing the necessary equipment.

Every venture has its risks and challenges, but as they say, "this isn't our first rodeo.” Having been through 3 build-outs, we're keenly aware of what they entail, how long they take, and what it ultimately takes to get a new location up, running, and thriving.
We also have an incredible team standing by ready to renovate the building and create a kitchen that will allow us to continue baking our King Cakes fresh daily throughout the Mardi Gras season. This new location will allow us to keep costs down overall through greater efficiency and more intentional purchasing.

Where you come in!

You know how it goes. You have this great big idea. You use your experience and advisors to painstakingly plan for all your costs. You budget for the unexpected but the unexpected is almost always more than expected! Oh, and those notorious project killing delays, delays, delays!

After negotiations on a few other Shreveport locations fell through, we have finally purchased a building in our Highland neighborhood and we are currently right in the middle of construction! Just a few more weeks (or months!) of work left and then we just wait for city approvals. That's where we are now, so...

We need you! Our goal here is $5,000, but every little bit counts and is greatly appreciated!

The biggest challenge, honestly, has been reaching out to the community for some help. It's not easy to ask for help, but this community of people has supported us through 7 unforgettable years, and this new chapter of our saga will really set us up to make it through the next 7 as a business that supports its community, its people, and its planet to the best of our ability.

First, the stuff we're lucky to have already:
• A 3400 sq ft building with ample parking
• A lot of kitchen equipment and supplies
• A sweet mission
• A loyal customer base (that’s you!)

What we'll do with the money:
So what are you paying for? We're glad you asked! Our renovation budget is $85,000 including new plumbing, electrical, HVAC, roof work, signage, and equipment (a convection oven, refrigeration, etc) as well as necessary food and packaging for the upcoming Mardi Gras Season. We are currently $5,000 short of this goal. That’s where you come in! Whether it's $5 or $100, any amount is appreciated and we are forever thankful!

And here's the kicker: We’re going to get all of this done before the end of the year!

The support, love, and encouragement we've received in our first 7 years of business has been AMAZING. We've got a lot of loyal customers and get great word of mouth. I know that with your support we will reach our goal.
