We are Steven and Stephanie Berbec and we're moving to Tanzania to live and work alongside coffee farmers and their families — a concept we call After Trade.
Coffee is one of the most traded commodities in the world, yet thousands of smallholder farmers and families who are dependent upon this industry for their own susbsistence are hardly surviving.
After Trade moves beyond the trade of coffee and toward reconciliation between farmers, roasters, coffee, and the land, through practices of solidarity and sustainability.
Our work will also involve creating and assisting with sustainable development projects in the community with EITanzania .
Many of you have been following along with our journey since we announced our decision to move a year ago this month. We're down to the few weeks of fundraising, and a few key items remain on our list to make this work possible: language school, work permits, and plane tickets. By donating to this cause, you are helping us cover the costs of these necessary expenses.
We arrive in Tanzania on January 20th — if we meet our fundraising goal.
It is our community of friends and family that has helped us get this far. We are so grateful for your support.
