Her story:

Brittany is a 26 year old, Milan High School graduate of the class of 2010.  She married her high school sweetheart, Nick Lohrum, in September of 2016 and they reside in Milan, IN with their yorkie, Ally.

Brittany had sinus surgery December 20, 2017 due to years of sinus infections which qualified her as a good candidate for this surgery.  She didn’t seem to get any better and continued to suffer with her sinuses.

On February  7, 2018, she experienced a tremendous amount of pain on her side and went to the emergency room and was told she had a kidney stone. Two weeks later she became very sick and was vomiting a lot and went back the doctor. The doctors started to think she might have an issue with her gallbladder.  An x-ray showed that the kidney stone was still there. Two weeks later she went in to have the kidney stone blasted, but they did not see it on the x-ray so they assumed she had passed it.  A few days later, she woke up in terrible pain and knew the stone was still there.   On February  22, she went back and they removed the kidney stone.

In March 2018, she was still having pain on her side and vomiting. She knew something was not right. She had also developed a terrible cough.  After numerous tests, ultrasounds and labs she still didn’t have an answer as to why she felt so bad.

In April 2018,  the cough had gotten even worse and she was also hoarse when she talked. She made an appointment with a surgeon at Community Physicians Network in Greenwood to find out if her gallbladder could be causing her illness. She was able to see him in May and he wanted to do some further testing because of some problems she experienced with the previous two surgeries.  While waiting on the those test results, she went through another week of coughing and vomiting and a new pain on her left side. Her coughing was so severe, she thought she has possibly broken a rib.

On May 27, 2018 she had a fever and was in excruciating pain.  A call was made to her surgeon, who happened to be on call and said for her to go to the emergency room at Community South in Greenwood. She got there around midnight and the doctors had a plan of attack. She had an EKG, blood work, and a CT scan to see if she might have a blood clot in her lung.  Around 4 a.m. the doctor told her she did not have a blood clot but her lymph nodes in her chest were very enlarged and that they had been on the phone with an oncologist.

She met with Dr. Bedano, her oncologist, on May 30, 2018.  He said he did not see enlarged lymph nodes but rather a very large mass in her chest.

She had a pet scan on June 5 and on June 7, she met with a thoracic surgeon. This doctor was straight to the point and told  Britt  that she had cancer and they needed to do a biopsy to see what kind she had. The biopsy was done on June 8.  On June 13, with her husband and family by her side, she met with the oncologist again and was told  she had Stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. On  June 14, she met with a surgeon to schedule her surgery to have her gallbladder removed and a port put in.  She had an echo on  June 18, a bone biopsy on  June 19, and on June 21, she had her gallbladder removed and a port put in. She had a week to recover and then her first chemo treatment started on  July 3.

Britt had chemo every other week for 5 months. On November 21, she had her 11th round of chemo and on  November 26, she was hospitalized for 3 days as they could not get her heart rate to come down. Her oncologist decided her body had had enough and he didn’t want to risk damaging her heart so he stopped the treatments. She did not get the 12th round of chemo.

What the fund will be used for:

Brittany missed a lot of work due to illness prior to finding out she had cancer.  She has been off work since May 2018. This fund will greatly help relieve accumulated medical bills.

How you can help:

Please continue to pray for Brittany to get stronger and for her cancer to stay in remission.

What is happening now:

Brittany is in remission as of December 19, 2018!  She is going to physical therapy a few times a week to help her get stronger so she can return to work soon.
