Emergency Ebola Kits for Liberia

Donation protected
Background
We all know about the Ebola outbreaks in Liberia and other West African countries. However, many people do not know that an estimated 75% of Ebola deaths in Liberia are women. The reason is simple: more women are putting their lives on the line to provide emergency care for infected loved ones. This is also true as more and more caregivers in local communities in Liberia risk their lives to help a stranger, like caring for an orphaned child or helping a pregnant woman get to a clinic. With all the awareness about Ebola prevention, parents and other caregivers still take the risks of caring for infected loved ones, knowing that their kindness could potentially cause infection.

Action
The Babson African Students Organization (BASO) in partnership with the Student Reform Initiative (SRI) in Liberia, aims to raise funds to purchase emergency protective kits that can be distributed to Liberian households in communities that are most affected by the virus. Our theory is that when residents of these communities have a means of protecting themselves while attending to their loved ones, the risk of contracting the disease is greatly reduced.  This is why it is critical for every household to own one of these emergency protection kits.

Our campaign targets 5,000 households in high-risk communities where the disease is spreading. It is our hope that these kits will reduce the risk of caregivers contracting the virus and potentially save the lives of those they care for.

We will purchase these emergency kits in the U.S. and ship them from Boston to Liberia where they will be distributed to these households by a team of volunteers from the local universities, coordinated through Student Reform Initiative, a registered non-profit working to improve education in Liberia.

Please help us reach our goal of $25,000.00 by donating now.   Every dollar CAN SAVE A LIFE! Together, we can save many lives and restore hope to families in Liberia.
