Helping to save Kasey's foster kittens!

Donation protected
In the spring, Kasey rescued some feral cats that had been trapped in a drain pipe over the winter. She had been feeding and caring for them and when things finally thawed, she caught them all. There were five in all: four females were pregnant, plus one male cat. In addition, she took on one litter of five 10 day old kittens from a house in Detroit that were without a mother cat that she was hand feeding with a syringe.

Although Kasey was unsuccessful in getting the feral adult cats socialized, as the kittens were born (all 4-5 kittens) and with gloves, she successfully socialized the newborn kittens. In all, she had 5 adult cats and 18 kittens She was even successful in finding homes for them when they become old enough. Although Kasey works with Guardian Angel Rescue, they are tapped out financially and could only cover vaccines and spaying/neutering for all of the cats and kittens. Therefore food, litter and other supplies has fallen on the shoulders of Kasey and her saint of a husband Kevin Mack.

The kittens are now of age and beyond ready to go to their homes and even received their first round of vaccines on 6/24. However, a few weeks ago they started to become ill. Kasey kept them, making sure they were healthy before going to their new homes, and got them on meds. The situation progressively got worse and this past weekend it was confirmed that 2 of the litters had somehow been exposed to a very deadly, and highly contagious disease known as Panleukopenia or Feline Distemper. Two of the feral mother cats were sick with the Panluk as well. In the last 72 hours, she lost 5 kittens, but not before incurring about a $700.00 vet bill, eventaully losing a total of 7 out of 9 of the very sick kittens. The vet bill grew and grew, and one little girl named Mila was the one everyone was pulling for.

UPDATE, JULY 9th, 2014:
Last night the five were taken to Wilson vet in Washington Twp.  Kasey got a high quote of $3,000.00 for 3-4 days of care. Therefore, the $1,000.00 goal may not come close to covering the bill. Bully's Angels and 4 Paws 1 Heart have been amazing and supportive as rescue groups, but this cost will still fall on mine and Kasey's shoulders in the end. After a night of constant monitoring and I.V. fluids, it was determined that two more should be humanely euthanized today. The one in the picture above is one of those two. Of the remaining three, one more fell ill, but it was caught early and he is right where he belongs. One remains strong, with no signs of the illness yet, and the last little one is has a 50/50 shot receiving the treatment she needs.

UPDATE, July 21st, 2014:
The kittens stay at Wilson vet is over. Mila lost her battle with PanLuk last Friday, July 18th, just like many of her other brothers and sisters. However, Bear and Kiko did pull through and will need great homes very soon. The bill totaled just about $3400.00. Kasey is a stay at home mother and she and her husband will pick up the remainder of what is not paid by donations, but it will be very, very difficult. Any other sharing or donating that you can do to chip away at this bill is wonderful! There are still kittens and cats in need of great homes as well. Thank you all so very much.

If you cannot donate monetarily but you are able to donate with supplies here is what she needs:

*Wet food for KITTENS, any brand will do.
*Cat litter...a lot!
*Spread the word and share this link
*A cat sanctuary for feral cats that are spayed and utd on shots and forever homes for the kittens who survived.
*Or anything you think would help or could donate.

All she wants is to see these kittens live happily. After this, she will not be able to foster for at least two years. The vet has told her this disease is so hearty, she cannot bring any foster animals in for that long and this, again, is her passion. So if this is the last time she can foster for at least two years, she wants to make it as worthwhile as possible. She just needs support. If you can help, please do. Kasey can be reached on her cell for questions at [phone redacted] and her address for donation deliveries is:

Kasey Mack
2269 W. Euna
Wixom, Mi. 48393.

***Any other questions, please feel free to contact me at [phone redacted]. I am happy to pick up and deliver supplies as well.

As a sister who loves, admires, and is so worried about Kasey and her family right now, I thank you all!
