Hello everyone! Noel speaking here... I just want to tell you all that I recently discovered that I was able to write you and thank you all personally for your donations. I spent all day doing so to make sure that I thanked every one of you! Some of the donations it wouldn't let me see so I hope I was able to thank you all. If not, I apologize and I'm thanking you now. You are all so generous and the support you have all shown has helped me greatly! I recently was able to purchase my own prosthetic 3 weeks ago and am doing well. It's definitely a learning experience and I have a very long way to go still, but with the support from friends and loved ones it isn't as difficult. So once again.... thank you all, so much
I got a visit from this wonderful woman yesterday. Her name is Andrea, she also went through a leg amputation a year ago and stopped by to tell me her story. Listening to her talk gave me such hope that I'll be able to recover from this and go back to living my normal life again. She is such an inspiration, if she can continue to wake board with a prosthetic leg, I too can continue to fallow my dreams!
Oh and she brought me such a cute flower!
"Would like to thank the nurses at Harborview medical center in Seattle for taking such good care of Noel and putting up with her family. One of the afternoon nurses had got online for Noel and printed the article for her that had come out in the Walla Walla Union Bulletin. Noel is in good hands I believe and a very caring nursing staff.
Today is a very big day for Noel. Occupational therapy and physical therapy will be working with Noel to teach her how to get up out of bed and to learn how to use a walker. Yesterday Noel got to get out of bed and sit up in a chair for a while and seemed to enjoy just getting up and moving.
This is not going to stop this girl. I can see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice that this is just the beginning of a new beginning.
This is a heartbreaking post....but wanted to update everyone. Noel is experiencing a great deal of phantom pain, but the doctors have been able to get on top of it. She has developed a fever, so they are making sure they are managing any possibility of infection. They are also getting her a CT scan to make sure there are no blood clots that could travel to her lungs. The strength of Noel and her mom Christa is nothing short of miraculous. We love you guys and are continuing to pray.
The price of a new prosthetic leg can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $50,000. But even the most expensive prosthetic limbs are built to withstand only three to five years of wear and tear, meaning they will need to be replaced over the course of a lifetime, and they're not a one-time cost. Depending on the activity Noel will need a couple of different types of prothesis. Her life was changed in an instant, but her lifestyle does not need to, with our help.
Noel had a tough night with a great deal of pain. This morning the doctors have given her a nerve blocker to help ease the extreme pain. Currently she is not allowed visitors. Please keep her in your prayers today and we will post updates as we get them.
"Noel has a big day ahead of her. Health is in great condition to go into surgery today. Thank you everyone for your prayers, encouraging words and donations. Noel will be in surgery today to have her left leg amputated so plesse have her in your prayers. Noel has a long road ahead of her but she will have lots of support and family and friends that will be there by her side."
"I just want to take a second and apologize to those of you who have been trying to get ahold of me. This week has been pretty rough on me, and I haven't had much time to reply back to you or keep any of you updated, but don't let that hold you back, i really enjoy hearing what you all have to say. My brother Chandler Vieu and bf Jake Furstenberg have been really good about answering questions and keeping people updated, so feel free to contact them and ask I appreciate all the concerns and kind words; every day they read me what you guys have to say and every one of you have touched my heart! I never knew I had such a large, caring, beautiful, most awesome and supportive group of friends. Love you all!"
The decision has been made by Noel, the family and her doctors that amputating Noel's leg is the best option for her long-term recovery. The damage was just too extensive to repair. She will have a course of surgeries over the next several days. In light of this, our fund-raising efforts will be focused on being able to raise enough to pay for a prostheses, as insurance will likely not pay for one. Please keep Noel in your prayers and donate anything you can. Please share this on your own Facebook pages to broaden the audience. The family is humbled by the support and is eternally grateful!
Noel has a very long road ahead of her, with big changes and challenges to face that most of us couldn't possibly fathom. Now more than ever, she needs our love, our prayers and any support we can provide. Think of this....if it were your child, sister, wife, friend....what would YOU want people to do? What would YOU need? Let's be there for Noel and her family in every way that we can!
The family would like everyone to know that they are actively trying to figure out the best plan of action with regard to Noel's support at the hospital. They will be staying at the hospital in shifts and taking turns as they are able. They are actively researching more affordable options with parking and lodging in Seattle. They are also looking at ways to mitigate other financial obligations back home. They will be addressing all of these things from every angle, but it takes time. Right now they are focusing on the best plan for Noel and what her immediate needs will be. Please rest assured, any funds that are donated will go directly to expenses incurred while Noel is in the hospital and all funds will be managed with thought and care. We appreciate your continued support and prayers.
I just got off the phone with Christa (Noel's mom) and they had a serious scare last night with some complications with her meds, but today she is doing much better. Her surgery on Thursday is to further evaluate the muscle/damage situation in her leg, but its not looking good. We will continue to pray and support this family. They are also having trouble with the administration at the hospital and have been given no help whatsoever in regards to lodging, etc. The hotels in Seattle are at least $200 per night. Needless to say, this family needs our help! Please donate whatever you can.
To those wondering about the family's expenses - They will be working with a social worker associated with the hospital to find better options with housing, parking, etc. Until they do, they have very limited/expensive options. In addition, they have food, gas (traveling back and forth between M-F and Seattle) and not to mention astronomical medical expenses associated with Noel's surgeries and extensive hospital stay. Your donations will help them to manage all of these expenses. Believe us when we say they are looking for ways to manage their expenses. Even so, this event is going to put this family in financial dire straits. Donations for this family could mean all the difference, and they greatly appreciate everyone's thoughts, prayers and continued support.
A gigantic THANK YOU to those who have donated! The family is touched and appreciative of your generosity. If everyone could donate even just $5...that would go such a long way in helping with the expenses being incurred. Its truly amazing what can be accomplished when people ban together to help a wonderful family in a time of severe need. Thank you in advance.
I just talked to Christa (Noel's mom). She said they are charging her $70 PER DAY for parking and their hotel cost $180 last night. This is going to put a huge financial stress on the family....they are really needing our donations.
Noel Shannon was involved in a horriffic vehicle accident on Saturday, July 5, 2014. She was alone in the mountains in Eastern Oregon when her truck rolled and pinned her underneath, crushing her leg. She was trapped there overnight and had to dig herself free to get to safety. Sadly, after under going surgery every day for a week at Harborview in Seattle, doctors were unable to save her left leg due to the blood loss and tissue damage. They were forced to amputate above the knee and she is currently being fitted for a prosthetic. You all helped tremendously with funding her family and enabled them to be there to support her while she was in the hospital, and we thank you so much for that. We are now raising money to help with the lingering costs of the life flight, extensive medical expenses, living expenses and expenses to cover a prosthetic leg until she is able to return back to work. Any amount has been and will be gratefully appreciated. Thank you so much for all of your support and don't forget you can follow Noels sorry on her Facebook page 'Thinking of Noel Shannon' and watch her progress!
I have been following you on Fb, since your accident, you truly are amazing young lady! You inspire me,with your strength and positive attitude. Much, love, & prayers sent your way. You look amazing in your new leg! I'm so proud of you.
God bless you always!! Xoxo
