Independence for Logan

Donation protected
My name is Xander, I am trying to raise this money to improve the life of my partner, Logan. He has a condition affecting the production of connective tissues called Ehler-Danlos Syndrome(EDS) which means he suffers from problems such as pain and fatigue. It also means that all his joints are weak and frequently sublux or dislocate because the tissues that hold his joints together have degraded, this is one of the main causes of his pain and as a result he uses a wheelchair. His condition is a degenerative condition that started to affect him in his teenage years, but due to it being a less common condition, doctors insisted for several years that nothing was wrong and it was only luck that he finally found a doctor in the past 2 years who recognised the severity what was wrong, allowing Logan some form of explanation of what was happening to him. He is also diagnosed with mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

I've created this page for Logan because not only does he not believe anyone will help him, he doesn't believe that he deserves to be helped and that is simply not true and I want to prove that to him.

I want to raise enough money to get Logan a Nippi, a type of roll-in, road worthy 50cc scooter, as well as be able to insure it for a year and cover getting him a Compulsory Basic Training, the requirement to drive it. The Nippi we hope to purchase is second-hand £700, the insurance around £400 and the Compulsory Basic Training £100. If this one isn't available the only other one we can find is £1200, we don't expect to raise enough to buy a new one.

Logan is a caring and compassionate person who goes out of his way to help other people however he can. If he can spare something to help someone out he will. He is also strongly motivated to achieving equality and fighting oppression, from protesting NHS cuts to counter-protesting racist demonstrations by the EDL, however his current situation prevents him from being able to be as actively involved as he once was and I'd like to help him change that.

Not only does he live with his own condition, he looks after me as well. I have mental health difficulties as well as chronic migraines and undiagnosed neurological problems which cause me all sorts of problems, including very poor memory, difficulty understanding what is being communicated to me, muscle twitches and spasms that make me prone to throwing or dropping things and difficulty standing or walking.

He is invaluable to motivating me each day, from getting me out of bed to going step by step through basic tasks such as washing up when I need it. I do not know what I would do without him.

Right now Logan is pretty isolated. Apart from trips to the local shop, which are always short due to his wheelchair being too small and causing him pain, he rarely gets much social interaction, except on the rare occasion, maybe once or twice a month, that folks visit. I'd love for him to be able to get out and make new friends, there's plenty he wants to do but our only travel options are buses, and since being attacked and thrown from his wheelchair, his anxiety has been worse, and public transport just isn't an option.

The Nippi would also allow Logan more independence in his medical care. He often has to cancel medical appointments due to having no way to get to them, meaning he gets a poorer standard of care than he would get otherwise.
We currently get just enough money to keep the gas and electric meters topped up and to feed ourselves. The government have had us waiting on a decision on whether to increase our main benefit after assessing Logan 8 months ago. We've applied for additional benefits since and been told we could be waiting more than a year for those to be in payment.
In the meantime we're stuck just about getting by from payment to payment.

Please consider donating any amount you can to help a thoroughly deserving guy get the independence he needs to live his life more fully.
