BRC Texas Souk 2014 - The Senses

Burning Man is about more than Black Rock City! Scores of regional burns exist all over the earth, spreading the culture and principles of Burning Man everywhere. This year, Burning Man will celebrate this worldwide influence with the Souk, a tented bazaar that will encircle the base of the Man itself! When Burning Man participants visit the base of the man they’ll be encouraged to walk through this maze of “shops,” meeting people from around the world. Regional Burner communities from around the globe have been invited to come together to create this environment, offering gifts of all kinds to Burning Man participants.
This year the Texas regions of Dallas, Austin, Houston, El Paso, and Corpus Christi have joined forces to form the Texas Souk, a statewide cooperative project that will be a part of the wider Souk project. We’ll be traveling to Burning Man and sharing our gifts, maintaining a “shop” at the base of the man! We’re focusing on the 5 senses, offering a variety of gifts that appeal to all: music, spices, sun catchers, chimes, incense, and more.
In addition to our presence at Burning Man, the Texas Souk project exists to promote community and good citizenship locally. To that end, each region in Texas represented is volunteering time and energy at a park or community space cleanup and the items collected will be upcycled into gifts for the Texas Souk tent at Burning Man!
So, want to be involved? We’d be so grateful! Your donations will help:
-Defray transportation costs to get Texas Souk gifts and infrastructure to Burning Man
-Purchase raw crafting materials to help us make our gifts
-Purchase a variety of exotic spices and incense intended as gifts in the Texas Souk
-Procurement of instruments for our nightly drum and music circle at the Texas Souk
-Outfit the Texas Souk tent as a rich and welcoming space
