Jinx's Vet Bills

Donation protected
UPDATED BIOGRAPHY,  SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20th :

Dear Supporters,
As some of you may already know because they saw it on Jinx's Instagram account, @jinx_dunormont, Jinx is sick again.
It started on Sunday 14th, she suddenly had fever and stopped eating and playing. I'm re-opening this GoFundMe page because I really have no other choice. I wish I could do that for her, but the thing is, I can't really afford her vet care, and it truly breaks my heart because she deserves the best. She's such an amazing baby. She's been hospitalized since Wednesday... I don't have the exact amount I need yet, but as soon as I got the vet bills I'll post it on this page. The amount should be around 1500€ so far, and she may stay at the clinic longer.
You guys have helped me with the July bill, which was around 1100€ in the end, and you donated 655€, which was such a great relief for me, because as you could read in the page description, I'm only a student. Jinx and I could never thank you enough for that <3
I started to work as an English teacher since early September, and I should receive my first salary at the end of the month. In the meantime, I still have to pay one of my best friends, who generously lent me 400€ to pay for the remaining part of the July bill; and I also have to pay my rent... I really have no choice, that's why I need your help today.
You can find below what's going on with Jinx, and all the updates I posted on Instagram since Wednesday.
Thanks for being there for us, for everything.
Leo and Jinx

Wednesday, September 17th :

Jinx's Mom here. Jinx is currently at the vet's clinic. Most of you know that Jinx has had pretty bad health issues in July. You've followed it, helping us to get through this, we could never thank you enough for that <3. A week ago, I took Jinxie to the vet to do a blood test to control her Feline Coronavirus (FCOV) level, to see if it had been shut down by the treatment she had when she was hospitalized at the clinic, which should have happened. She was doing so well, had gained weight and was the happiest kitten ever, (you could see that in the previous posts) the vet was so happy about that. He was careful because you can't really tell for sure if your kitty has FIP (mutated FCOV – no treatment, fatal outcome) because there is no 100% sure test that exists, you have to look at a bunch of clues and interpret them (The FCOV level is one of them.) ; yet he was quite optimistic since it's rare to see such resilient kittens, feeling so well after what she's been through. I got the results on Monday. The vet team was very surprised because it was quite high... meaning that actually that might be FIP. Since Sunday, the fever was back and she stopped eating and playing. On Monday I told them that and they gave me the results, along with some instructions to follow. With my new job as a teacher and taking care of her, I didn't have time to post things on IG and I'm so sorry about that, plus I didn't know what to say really. I guess I didn't want to write words on what was really happening... Even though it's hard to write, you guys have the right to know. I owe you that <3. I took her to the vet this afternoon (it was a different vet than the one who usually follows her but he's been taking care of her when she was at the clinic in July – the nurse was my favourite one) he did a check-up and we decided she should stay there for the night with a drip to hydrate her, feed her and control her fever. Tonight he'll do a different blood test to check her other vital signs and he should call me right away. I'll let you guys know of course. Thanks so much for reading, wish her luck... I don't know what to do, I'm devastated...

Update 1 : Tonight the vet called me to give me the blood test results and tell me how she was. Good news is her fever has stopped thanks to the medicine in the drip and she ate a little on her own. Poor baby, she must be so hungry, not eating 3 days in a row! (she lost 200g). Also, in the blood test, her albumine/globuline ratio is not abnormal (could be a sign of FIP) and neither are her other levels. Bad news is : except for her white blood cells, the level of which is too low. On the one hand it could be caused by any virus or bacteria she would have caught really, on the other hand this could be caused by FIP if she has it, even if it's not a very common pattern as regards the symptoms of the disease, some kitties having FIP happened to lack of white blood cells. Since her general state is already better tonight, she will probably come home tomorrow with a treatment. This treatment she had at the clinic should help having her white blood cells back to normal, and we will do another test to see if it's back to normal in a week. However, even if she gets better, we still won't be able to know if it's FIP or not, only time will tell... If she has it, she's got between 1 – 6 months maybe. I thought this was ok, I don't want to believe she's sick, please PLEASE she can't go this soon, I need her too much, she's such a special baby, she's amazing... I'll keep you guys updated tomorrow, of course. Thanks so much you all <3 we love you.

Thursday, September 18th :

Update 2 : Hi everyone ! Just got the vet on the phone (the one who has been following her since I got her). Jinx spent a good night, ate a little, and he told me that if we didn't know she was sick, we wouldn't see it because she seems very well. Also he talked to me about the blood test results I got yesterday by the other vet replacing him, and what he forgot to tell me is that she had a spectacular raise of her lymphocytes, which might suggest that it's another virus - at least he's not interpreting it as FIP today. I have an appointment to see her and have a conversation about it this afternoon at 4.30. We talked about what happens next : today they'll have to check if the fever does not come back too hard with the medicine losing its effect, and tonight they will do another blood test to see if her white blood cells level has changed. Today he's giving her a typhus/coryza shot, because he thinks her immune system needs to be boosted; although she had all her shots when she was younger, he thinks it might have been done a little too early in her life to be as effective as it should be, what would have caused her to catch nasty viruses that easy. Unfortunately she will not come home tonight, but she will tomorrow if everything's OK. I'm so lucky to have found such a great vet. I've seen you guys on IG having health problems with your fur babies and having vets on the other side who were insensitive, not communicating with you, and taking advantage of your sorrow. I'm so lucky mine is not like that, I wish you all had a vet like him... I also have to figure out the financial issue since I've not received my first salary yet and still have to pay for her last stay at the clinic (you guys helped me with paying 60% of it, which is beyond amazing), but I want her to have the best treatment because she deserves it so bad - she makes me so happy, I owe her the best, I'll do everything it takes. I'm stressed out but I'm very thankful, for the vet and his team but also for all your support, kind words, good vibes and prayers, the animal lovers on IG form such a great community. We love you !

Update 3 : I went to see Jinxypoo at the clinic this afternoon. It was just for me to be able to cuddle her a bit and discuss what will happen during the next days. First of all, the fever is gone, she ate a little and purrs again. I got her in my arms and she was looking at me in the eyes while I was talking to the vet, snuggling on my chest. God I love her so much ! I think she was happy to see me and hear my voice ! She's still a bit tired but has always energy to ask for chin scratches and attention, typical Jinx! I think the nurse spends all her free time at the clinic petting her :) The vet was quite optimistic and smiling when I saw him, I guess it's good news because he doesn't speak that cheerfully when he's upset about her health. So now scientific stuff : she will have a blood test tomorrow morning to see if her white cells level has changed. Option 1 : it hasn't changed and is still very low, she gets one interferon injection per day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, anyway she comes home and I get her to the clinic just to do the shot. Option 2 : her white blood cells level have come up, so she comes home with a little medical treatment and everything should be OK (except that we will never know for sure if she has FIP or not, of course, because the Coronavirus level is still there). If everything comes back to “normal” tomorrow, it would mean that she just caught a little virus or bacteria that was hanging out in the neighborhood (of course! Lucky Jinx) and just needed some little help to fight it because her immune system was not so efficient. I really hope it's Option 2 ! I got some more time alone with her, look how she nested on my lap ! With her little paw with the drip bandage too ! And at some point she even put her head in my hand as if she was telling me “it's gonna be ok Mommy, don't be sad !” and we just cuddled like that for a while, it felt so good! Can't wait to bring her home tomorrow, I think Fanta is impatient too. And guess what, tomorrow is Jinx's half birthday ! She'll be 6 months old – that means celebration treats !

Friday, September 19th :

Update 4 : Just got the nurse on the phone. Jinx had her blood test this morning, her white blood cells level has dropped down by half... And the fever came back hard, and she has pretty bad diarrhea... I'm devastated. I'm seeing her at 5 pm. The nurse told me they gave her interferon right away and sent a sample of her faeces to the lab so they can analyse it. The vet thinks it's a dangerous instestinal virus. I don't know much more about it, I'll be able to post more when I go to the clinic... Poor baby she must be suffering, and she probably won't be able to come home tonight... For her 6 months birthday ... I can't cry at work because I'm a teacher and I have to see my most difficult pupils at 3.30pm. I slept 4 hours last night because I was so worried...It's so hard... I can't... I want her to be happy and healthy, that's what she deserves and I can't give her that right now...

Saturday, September 20th :

Update 5 : I went to see Jinx at the clinic yesterday, I got to spend 2 hours with her, it felt so good! The vet said that the different clues they got make him think that she caught typhus. Even though she got her shots against it, the vet thinks that she may have been vaccinated too early in her life, or because she's been so sick in July, her immune system might not be that effective. Moreover, he told me that typhus was circulating a lot these days, some different kinds of typhuses which had mutated and which were very contagious and aggressive. He said that she may have caught it from an indirect contact with another kitty, with our shoes for example (because she doesn't go out). He said that anyway, it didn't matter to know the cause, because we would never know, but that we had to hope her little body responds to the treatment. This is a very dangerous disease, and her organism might not resist... The lab will tell us on Monday if it's really typhus or not, thanks to her faeces sample. Anyway, she's currently being treated. Yesterday she was fine when I was with her, because the anti-thermic meds were keeping the fever down, helping her to feel more “normal”, even though she was tired. She was so cuddly! I got many purrs and head-bumps ! When the nurse came in she would also ask for cuddles from her, that was so cute to see, I know she's not unhappy being there with them. She gets a lot of attention and good care. I called them this morning, and she had spent a good night, she played a little with the kibble but didn't eat much. She was in good shape, probably thanks to the anti-thermic meds. She's been there since Wednesday, I have no idea how much it's gonna cost me... I will call them again this evening at 6pm to check on her. I'll let you guys know. I'm praying so hard she will get through this...

Update 6 : I got the nurse on the phone tonight, Jinx has had a good day, was quite curious and alert. The fever was stable at 39.1°C (normal temperature for kitties is between 38°C and 39°C) but she didn't eat on her own, so they had to bottle-feed her with a syringe, which she accepted. She didn't go potty so they couldn't see if she still has diarrhea but when they took her temperature they saw a bit of it on the thermometer, with little blood. She reassured me saying that this was expected because of the inflammation in her intestine; but also maybe because they take her temperature very often, this could cause a little irritation. They'll have to check her faeces when it's out. Sorry for the not so delicate explanation... Tomorrow morning they'll do another blood test to check on her white blood cells level. It HAS TO go up, please Jinx keep fighting, you can do this!! I need you so much ! I will call them tomorrow morning at 11am. On the other hand I was thinking of opening the GoFundMe account again, because as some of you may know, I don't have the means to pay the vet atm, even if he is accommodating and understanding, the vet bill will be around 1500€ I think, and I'm still paying for a part of the July one (and thank God you guys already helped me a lot!). What do you guys think? Would you be OK the share the link and spread the word for her, and maybe donate a little something? The amount really doesn't matter, because every tiny bit counts! I'll update the GoFundMe website as soon as the server will let me access it, because it doesn't seem to work for me right now. Lots of love!

Please stay tuned on GoFundMe or Instagram to see how things are evolving for her. Lots of love !

Original page description :

I created this GoFundMe Page so you can help me with my kitten's vet bills.
As you may know since the majority of you will come here after visiting Jinx's Instagram, baby Jinx is very ill. (you can learn more about what's going on on the previous posts on Instagram).
As pet owners we know how high vet bills can be, and as a student it is very hard for me to cope with such expensive and unexpexted event...
I hopefully will have a job in September as an English teacher, but for now I'm just really broke (and heartbroken). I would do anything to help my princess to get better, and since some of you suggested this option, I'm asking you all, who have been very supportive since the beginning, if you could help with the vet bills. No matter how modest, any amount really is very welcomed and Jinx and me would be forever grateful to you!

As some of you may know, Jinx is my best friend, and a precious gift.
After my rescued kitty Minou died of an unexpected renal insufficiency in February, I was heartbroken and inconsolable. She was my best friend, my confident, always there to cuddle me and make me laugh in the hard times and listening to me and reponding when I talked to her about my day. She was 6 years old and full of life when the illness took her away in only a few days. The vet did anything he could to save her, but he told me her kidneys might have been 10%-20% working since she was born and she was OK with it, it was not painful and it came from her genes. Just before her, I had another beautiful rescued kitty named Baghera (although she was a tortie!) who left this world because of FIV at the age of one.

After losing these two amazing rescued cats, I was devastated. My best friends, boyfriend and family decided to offer me the greatest gift ever for my birthday : a purebred little Birman, the cat of my dreams, from a very serious and experienced breeder. Birmans are a generally healthy breed and are known to be very affectionate and exclusive with their owners, exactly what I was looking for in a kitty.
Since Jinx arrived at home on the 26 of May, at 2.5 months old, it has been nothing more but happiness. She purred and adopted me right away, snuggling under the covers stuck to my belly during the first nights. She has a strong character and meows for minutes if you're not COMPLETELY paying attention to her. I was lucky my courses at college stopped the day before she arrived, I was able to stay with her all the time and bond. We're always together, and now that she spends nights hospitalized at the vet, I'm worried sick. I've always had a special relationship with my kitties, and for sure this new one is a blessing.

When I brought her to the vet with her high fever I could not stop crying. He said it was unlikely that it was a life-threatening virus but still, it is very worrying and well, costly too.

I could not afford such a beautiful cat in the first place, and sadly now I need some help to pay for the vet bills that are very expensive. I'm not asking for a great amount of money, but really any donation would help :)

We're counting on you and I will of course continue to post updates about Jinx on my IG account, @jinx_dunormont .

Of course all donors will have special thanks on our account <3

Thanks in advance, we will be forever grateful !
