Any Car Will Do!

First off, thank you for even bothering to click on the title. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Pictured above is Thelma, the 2003 PT Cruiser that my mother acquired in 2007, specifically for its styling as an honor to her grandmother, who taught her to drive in a 1947 Chevy Thriftmaster 3000. In April of this year, Thelma was totalled.

We've been trying to save up and find a deal to replace Thelma ever since, but at the rate things have been going, it's not going to work out in time. The fact that one of the household roommates who provided much of the collective income recentlydecided to move out and divorce her husband makes our situation even worse.

My mother and I need a car. The local bus system barely works for the errands that we have to run. Sometimes, a bus shows up early. On a few occasions, it has been as much as fifteen minutes late, which leads to missing the next bus at the transit center. Sometimes the bus doesn't arrive at all.

This transportation is growing less and less reliable for me every year, and since my mother suffers from anxiety and PTSD, using the busses is entirely out of the question for her.

I need a job, and a way to reliably get to that job at the time and place I commit to. My mother needs a way out of being stuck at home and being unable to even go get groceries.

The PT Cruiser that we had was of tremendous sentimental and instrumental value to both my mother and myself. When it was totalled earlier this year, the blow was huge, and it was shared between us both.

As of now, this is the one kick start we most need. The busses don't go everywhere, and they aren't available all the time. I have to catch rides home from the college because a class I'm taking runs later than any busses do. This is just one of many examples of how our own vehicle could liberate my mother and me.

Used Honda, Saab, and Toyota sedans from 1996 to 2006 are my targets. Different models within that criteria can be purchased reasonably for anywhere from four to six thousand dollars, according to the listings I have found around my area on Autotrader. The more we can raise beyond that for license, title, and other fees, the better.

As it stands, this is the one kick start we most need. The busses don't go everywhere, and they aren't available all the time. With a vehicle of our own, I could more easily get a job, and my mother could be free again. Right now, I am jobless(but seeking employment on campus) and my mother is stuck at home. I have to catch rides home from the college because a class I'm taking runs later than any busses do. These are a few of many examples of how our own vehicle could liberate my mother and me. I could more reliably and more promptly get to that job and to school, and back from both. My chances of getting another job in the first place would increase as well, and through that I might be better able to support the household.

Any investment in this campaign is an investment into my and my mother's future. You, the reader, have my utmost gratitude in advance just for reading all the way to the end. Thank you.
