Surviving My Disability Appeal
My name is D.A.Adams, and I suffer from an as yet undiagnosed neurological disease (most likely MS). For 16 years, I worked in higher education, teaching composition and business communications. I'm also a published author and a father to two sons.
I've been battling this illness for over 3.5 years, and up until about 8 months ago, I could still function fairly well. Today, however, walking is difficult; my left hand is nearly useless; I suffer terrible muscle spasms accompanied by an electric jolt; an indescribable fatigue overwhelms me from the slightest exertion; and a host of other symptoms make just getting through each day a challenge.
Social Security denied my initial application for disability, and I've already begun the appeal process, but it will take months to get a decision. Those close to me know that asking for help is not easy for me, but right now, I feel like I have no alternative. I cannot work like this, as even typing this simple section takes all of my concentration and effort. Quite simply, I need help.
My monthly bills have been whittled down as much as I can get them, but without income, I have exhausted my meager savings and maxed out my credit cards. In trying to beat this illness, I've also changed my diet considerably, but the fresh, unprocessed foods I need to get healthy are not cheap, and the amount of food stamps I receive is hardly adequate to get me through the entire month.
I'm raising funds simply to get me through the next 4-6 months while I await a decision from Social Security. If can help me in my time of need, I would be most grateful.
