Assiah's Liver Fund

Donation protected
Assiah Phinisee is a 11-year-old, double liver transplant recipient, who in May 2008 was diagnosed with a drug induced hepatitis. Following her diagnosis, Assiah was later misdiagnosed with biliary atresia and underwent two liver transplants by the time she was 4 years old. As a result of Assiah's life saving transplant in 2009, she and her mother, Rasheena Phinisee, founded A Star Name Assiah Liver Fund, a nonprofit that works to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation.

In an effort to educate younger children, about Assiah's experience in 2015 Assiah published a children's transplant book that has been featured on networks such as FOX, CBS, ABC and the nations number one iHeart Urban Radio station, 105.1 The BreakfastClub with Charlamagne ThaGod, Angela Yee and DJ Envy that airs on more than 50 stations across the country. Assiah's story was also shared in a 2017 New York Times Bestseller, Black Privilege by Charlamagne Tha God and the front cover of the Philadelphia Daily Newspaper.

2014 Book Launch

In 2017 her organizational initiatives impacted nearly 1 million people and her continued goal is to promote her healthy "Donor Lifestyle" initiative through engagement, education and empowerment. The "Donor Lifestyle" initiative is promoted through Assiah's Liver-Aid Lemonade stand, a healthy organic lemonade used to educate consumers about the beneficial effects of lemons on the liver or Assiah's Liver-Aid Beauty Bars, a homemade soap used to educate consumers about the benefit of natural skincare products that reduce health risk, all while sharing Assiah's message.

As a result of Assiah's efforts we have landed opportunities like her 2018 tour sponsored by Community Tissue Services and through continued community support this year Assiah's campaign will reach more than 1 million people. Assiah and her mother, Rasheena, are reshaping how society thinks about organ and tissue donation by creating lifestyle choices that continuously put organ and tissue donation on the forefront.

Not only is Assiah doing some pretty awesome things in the community but did I mention that she shared her transplanted organ with 1960s Rock and Roll idle Bobby Rydell? Yeah, this little lady is pretty awesome! She and Bobby have produced the first ever Gift of Life Jingle as part of their mission to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation. Assiah will even be turning her book into a live puppet show production. What to see more? Watch a few vids below!
