Historic House Museum Lives!

What makes the Dr. Best Museum so special?  We do not have replicas--every item in the home was used, loved, and kept by members of this family.  It is a true reflection of the Progressive Period with items ranging from 1880s-1920s.  That carriage--it was used by Dr. Chris Best to travel TO his parents in the early 1900s.

It is with a distressed heart that I write these words. I am the volunteer director at the Dr. Best Museum, a historical house museum full of magical items--thousands and thousands of them.  Medical items, civil war, political posters, World's Fair paraphrenalia, carriages, sleighs, car parts, license plates, architectural scraps, hats, clothing---that is at risk of being lost to the elements.

We have been raising money for repairs of varying levels of urgency.
$22,500 carriage house structural beams are rotten--temporary armature is in place.   COMPLETE!
$10,000 Carriage House roof
$10,000 Lead Paint abatement (house would then be painted by volunteers)
$2,000 Install wrought iron safety rail
Wish List:
$50,000 repair to a beautiful Bettina 4 carriages and 2 sleighs (one still has functioning jingle bells)
$20,000 Install asphalt parking lot

Every single penny given to the Best House is used for the betterment of the property and to prolong the life of the Museum.  There are NO paid staff members.  None. We have no income--other than donations.
