Ascent: Calendar Iron Pill Pack

Thank you for supporting our efforts to reduce maternal death in India.
Two years ago, many of our friends and family helped to send us to India to research the reasons why so many women die during childbirth. During our research, we heard from many doctors, nurses, and women that anemia was one of the largest preventable causes of death. Desperately needed is a product that includes:
1) High quality iron pills. There are low quality iron pills on the market for women with a low socio-economic status, but these pills make women sick and are only taken by about 12% of women that receive the prescription.
2) Packaging to increase adherence. Most poor women that are precribed iron during pregnancy have never taken pills on a daily basis. It is important to deliver the pills in packaging that creates a habit.
We have found a way to produce high quality iron pills in calendar pill packaging for India's poorest pregnant women.
But, we need your help. Before putting this product on the market, we need to test different package designs to ensure that all women-- rural or urban, educated or illiterate, rich or poor --will benefit from the dosed packaging. We also need to identify safe, secure, and efficient distribution channels to poor and rural clinics in the interior of India. We will travel to the state of Maharashtra in May to complete our final research.
