STEM Ed thru the lens of Aviation

Support this innovative STEM Education program!

The Problem: The United States needs to produce more science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) teachers and graduates in STEM majors, as well as generate greater interest in STEM among women, minorities, and underserved students.

An Underused Resource: Aviation is an engaging topic, and small airports intrinsically are STEM-rich environments.

A Solution: Aviation-themed outreach programs can provide a ready solution to our STEM problem.

Hence, The Art and Science of Flying Ground School – A Fun Workshop Exploring the Magic and Mechanics of Flight.

This fee-based event generates enthusiasm for STEM by weaving history, biology, and technology into a dynamic, daylong exploration of the wonder of flight. The workshop fosters personal growth and empowerment; offers new ways to overcome obstacles and approach problem solving; provides insights into achieving peak performance in any endeavor; facilitates fun interaction between aviation enthusiasts and non-pilots; and gives pilots new ways to view their flying experience and relate it to others.

Main goals for the event in Boise, ID on April 23rd:
  1) Have at least 150 participants, with a nice mix of pilots, teachers, and school students; and,
  2) Show evaluators from the FAA and major universities that Art and Sceince of Flying is a viable model for similar programs that can be hosted at airports across the country.

Master Aviation Educator Linda Castner from NJ and Master Flight Instructor Rich Stowell from ID are our featured presenters. Pilots who attend can earn FAA WINGS credit, while school teachers can earn up to six hours of professional development credit. Thanks to generous local organizations, we have scholarships for (24) female, minority, or underserved students to be part of this.

Your donation will help cover the myriad expenses involved, allowing us to keep the registration fee as low as possible (the fee includes a hot lunch and a chance to win a door prize!). We also have a great group of volunteers donating their time and expertise to make this a success. Any remaining funds will facilitate other aviation-themed STEM programs in Idaho.
