Stand with Voz for Equality

Tax deductible
VOZ, A worker rights organization in Portland, OR is in crisis after a funder gave it a choice: Cut your ties with an ally group because it supports marriage equality or don't receive our $75,000 grant.

But instead of being divided, VOZ told the funder it would prefer to lose its grant than lose its principles.

Now it's scrambling to find how it will provide health insurance to its staff and keep alive its state-wide campaign to stop wage theft.

But faith, LGBTQ, and labor groups are already rallying to support and you can be part of it to show that when a group stands up for unity, it doesn't stand alone.

======================
The Catholic Campaign for Human Development is a long-time funder of anti-poverty initiatives but some elements are adding onto it a witch hunt.

VOZ is an affiliate of the National Council de la Raza for its immigration advocacy and its work for low-income and Latino families. NCLR also has a marraige equality stance and for that reason CCHD has demanded VOZ divide itself from the national group.

Instead VOZ sent the following letter:

“We are a worker-led organization that empowers immigrants and day laborers to gain control over their working conditions. At the root of that mission, is the pursuit of justice and equality for all immigrants and day laborers. We have always found that to do this, we need all allies, day laborers, and immigrants to stand together in unity.

The philosophy of building borders between friends and allies has long been a debilitating instrument to slow the advancement of social justice and equality. Alone we cannot achieve anything.

Martin Luther King Jr., the namesake of our Worker Center once said: ‘The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.’

We stand with NCLR. We stand with their values.”

Make sure VOZ knows that when you stand up for your principles, you don't stand alone. Please donate to their equality fund to fill the gap left if CCHD pulls its grant.
