The Catholic Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, has come under public attack by a group that paid for a full-page newspaper ad in the San Francisco Chronicle demanding that Pope Francis remove him from his post. Why? Because Archbishop Cordileone wants teachers in San Francisco’s Catholic schools to teach authentic Catholic beliefs to children who attend Catholic schools. Those who are attacking him claim that Cordileone should not insist on the teaching of authentic Catholicism, but rather reflect their own set of values.
San Francisco Catholics (SFCatholics.org) is an independent grassroots organization of Catholics of San Francisco’s diverse community, including immigrants and children of immigrants from many lands. We are not affiliated with the Archdiocese’s office or with the Archbishop. Our voices are among those that many of San Francisco’s wealthy and powerful elites hope will not be heard. Yet we will not permit ourselves to be silenced or pushed to the margins. We proudly stand in support of Archbishop Cordileone!
The schools of the Archdiocese of San Francisco were built by the Catholic Church, funded and subsidized by the contributions of ordinary Catholics giving their pennies from the pews over the generations. We have a right to expect when we send our children to Catholic schools, they will be taught vibrant authentic Catholicism.
This GoFundMe campaign to support Archbishop Cordileone has two objectives. First, to publicize our statement of support for Archbishop Cordileone via various media. Second, we are sponsoring the “Archbishop Cordileone Support Day Family Picnic” on May 16th in San Francisco so that grassroots Catholics from throughout the archdiocese can come demonstrate their support for our outstanding leader, including a newspaper advertisement.
Any funds raised above our goal will be used to organize additional activities in support of the Archbishop including supplemental ads and additional events.
