Playroom Design for Foster Children

I am currently involved with a volunteer design project for the Department of Social and Health Services here in Seattle. They operate one of the only state-wide visitation centers for foster children. This center is an area where children (whom have been removed from their homes) await foster placement. Children who have already been placed will also come back to this center to visit with their biological parents.
My involvement includes the redesign of all playrooms in the visitation center. The enduring design philosophy for this project was comfort.
Children who have been removed are oftentimes scared and confused, and these playrooms should help them collect their thoughts, freely express themselves, and find emotional & physical comfort.
This fundraiser will cover the cost of 5 rooms worth of:
-Wall painting (warm and vibrant colors to set the emotional tone of their visit)
-Updated family-friendly furniture (vinyl sofa, coffee table, rug, stackable chairs, a children's table set)
-A media center including a television, DVD player, various media, and a retro gaming system with a jubilee of classic video games
-A chalkboard wall, arts/crafts supplies, and toys to inspire expression
-An all-ages free library with literature suitable for K-12 children
I have committed to funding two of these new playrooms on my own. With this fundraiser, I will be able to expand my reach to six playrooms and a kitchen.
I hope you will consider redirecting some of your holiday cheer to these children and families in need.

P.S. Donors who contribute at least $50 will have their names included in a plaque that hangs in the center, to commemorate their dedication to child welfare.
