Help Candice Cover Her Medical Bills

Color Guard is a performing art that combines dancing with props such as flags, rifles, and sabres. It utilizes all parts of the body to perform the complex choreography as part of a drum corps show.

From a very young age, Candice Lee fell in love with color guard and has been doing it for 11 years. The activity requires intense everyday rehearsal and a large amount of dedication. After finishing her high school career as captain of the James Logan High School Color guard in 2013, she went on to march Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps from Concord, California. After receiving a silver medal at the 2013 Drum Corps International World Championships, and being a part of the first Color guard to ever win their sixth consecutive title in DCI, she was determined to come back her second year even stronger than the previous.

While rehearsing for the 2014 season, on June 7th shortly before tour, she was injured at rehearsal and suffered a spinal injury; which required specialized medical attention. Initially, she had no control of her body from the neck down and was terrified at the idea of paralysis and not being able to march ever again. She remained in the Intensive Care Unit for 5 days. After surgery, she was transferred to multiple hospitals before going to a rehabilitation center. Slowly, she regained motion in her fingers and toes, and the prognosis for her recovery is now promising. The rehabilitation center offers physical therapy that will help her to walk again and regain control of her body movement. Her hopes are to march again with The Blue Devils in 2015 and age out in 2016.

All this medical care does not come cheap, and we as Candice's friends want to help make life for her and her family a little bit easier. We created this page in an effort to reach out to friends and fans of Drum Corps and The Blue Devils. A donation of any size is greatly appreciated and for any donation above $30 we will send you a #toughcookiecandice T-Shirt. Thank you for taking the time to read Candice's story and we hope that you can help us make things easier for her.
