A message from Justin Altig-Atwood

Both  my wife and I have had necrotizing fasciitis in the last month, we are struggling living with my parents as we are both out of work due to the disease we have had.  My wife Jennifer just came home 3 days ago after a 15 day stay in the hospital starting august 10th with 5 surgeries.  I was in the hospital from july 11-15 with a similar situation but only two surgeries.

Jennifer is currently using a walker to get between the bed and the portable toilet and can't climb stairs due to the surgeries on her foot, calf, and the huge piece of flesh they removed from her thigh.  We are looking at about 3 months of physical therapy and wound care, including an in home care nurse to change the wound vac on her thigh every two days.  We are working together to stay as clean and sterile as possible when the wounds need to be changed.  She still is receiving IV antibiotics and will be for at least another month.

It is rare even to have one person have the disease, let alone both parents to get two different strains within a month of eachother.  Our daughter, Rowan, is still reeling from the aftermath of the summer.

We are hoping to try to make sure our bills are met, food needs, and general family sanity after this.  Oregon Health Sciences University went over and above to make sure that both of us have survived this disease, however we are struggling to make ends meet and don't want to be a drain on my parents.

We still don't know how much insurance will cover or the total costs of a combined 20 days in the hospital plus antibiotics, as such the amount is just a guess for right now.

Please help us.
