Scotland Study Abroad

Hello everyone!
Most of you probably know me, but if you don't, my name is Megan and I'm a Junior at Central Washington University currently working toward my BS in Geography (environmental/resource geography specialization) with a minor in French.

I've been given the opportunity to study abroad at the University of Dundee in Dundee, Scotland for a year, which is incredibly exciting. This is a huge opportunity for me and one I've worked very hard to obtain, especially since as a geography student I feel it's very important to actually see as much of the world that I'm studying as I can, and to get out of my comfort zone and interact with other people and cultures. This isn't just a travel opportunity - it's a learning opportunity. In addition to spending time taking classes in Dundee, the courses I'll be taking include field work in southeastern Spain (Alicante/Valencia) and a trip to Edinburgh, giving my geography studies more depth. I'm also hoping this will be an opportunity to network a bit, as I'd like to return to the UK for grad school in a couple years and having connections to faculty may help with that.

However, while finanical aid (including scholarships) will cover the bulk of my costs, there are a lot of upfront expenses that I am struggling to meet. I need airfare, which includes baggage fees. I have to apply for a visa, which costs money. I'll need my first month's rent for my flat before my financial aid kicks in, as well as funds to buy necessities (bedding, toiletries, kitchenware, food) upon arrival since I'm not going to be able to pack along most of what I need. And I'd like to have some extra money - I won't be in the UK forever, and would like to have the funds to do a bit of traveling during breaks. I've done case studies on Glasgow and the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park for a couple of my classes, and would love the opportunity to see those places I've learned so much about in person. I have a bit of money saved, and have been looking for a summer job in order to put away a little more, but there's no guarantees I'll be able to find anything (I'm not the only college student looking for summer employment!). Therefore, anything anyone is able to donate to help me - even a few dollars - would be incredible. I would be so grateful for the help and support of my friends, family, and everyone else so that I can afford and make the most of my time abroad!
