Marineland Animal Defense Under Attack

Last summer myself and Marineland Animal Defense went to court to defend against an attempt by the captive animal facility, Marineland Canada, to get an injunction and stop all demonstrations on site - forever. 

We fought, defeated two contempt motions, 9 of their 14 points of relief and protected the ability for everyone to demonstrate on site. However, a Judge still awarded Marineland a $10,000 cost order against myself and Marineland Animal Defense. Why just me? During cross examination and in the face of an attempt for a contempt motion, I refused to name any other MAD organizer, supporter, donor, marshall, etc. This ensured that no one else would be sued and it was a risk I took hoping that when the time came to ask for support it would be there. 

Fast forward to June 2014 and we go back to court again on June 16th to defend against an attempt by Marineland Canada to revise and/or create a new order restricting the ability of demonstrators to chant, talk, or make appeals to park goers. At the exact same time Marineland Canada is now enforcing their previous cost order and bringing forward garnishment orders. We need to act and we need to act fast! 

Although $10,000 means next to nothing to Marineland Canada - which is reported to spend $4 Million/Year on advertising alone - it gives them significant leverage in the court room and also provides them with another weapon to punish me with. We are hoping to raise the funds to get rid of this cost order and also to successfully defend ourselves on June 16th - which would mean on June 17th we would be back to a position of strength after 19 months of aggressive civil litigation from Marineland. 

We've kept organizing, kept demonstrating and kept the pressure on and this latest round of aggression from Marineland can be traced back as their response to the overwheming support of our massive opening day "March on Marineland." With your support we will keep moving forward!
