The West End Reds are our only Little League Baseball Club in downtown Cincinnati, playing in the Cincinnati Knothole League, District 1.
The Reds consist of 5 baseball teams in age brackets 4-13 and a softball team for girls age 8-12 with 105 total participants.
The league is supported financially primarily by the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund, and player registration fees. However, with significant expenses for uniforms, equipment, and transportation there is still an annual shortfall.
It's challenging for the West End Reds because without many teams in the inner city, they have to travel to the suburbs for many of their games. All of this is done on a shoestring budget.
As a former Little League player and umpire, I know the value that baseball brings to the lives of young people in giving them a safe, rewarding activity, exercise and lessons on the value of teamwork, sportsmanship and unity.
So I have launched this gofundme account to raise $10,000 to make sure that our kids have the necessary uniforms, equipment and transportation.
