Mission: The mission of United States of Boxing is to provide a positive outlet for at-risk and delinquent youth through the sport of amateur boxing. United States of Boxing is determined to get kids off the streets and in the gym. We want to inspire the youth and instill a sense of hope in the future no matter the past. United States of Boxing hopes to empower Philadelphia youth in establishing goals and following through on commitments. We want to encourage our youth that anything is possible if you work hard and put your mind to it. We hope to expand the perspective of young people to make them aware of life’s possibilities. United States of Boxing aims to promote education and community- surrounding young people in a caring, inclusive learning environment.

Overall Goals:
1. Better the lives of Philadelphia youth through the sport of amateur boxing
2. Provide counseling and mentoring services (programs, speakers, referrals)
3. Educate the youth of Philadelphia (tutoring, GED, college prep, job assistance, health and nutrition, gangs, violence, drugs, and so on)
4. Get our youth involved in the community (through projects and service)

United States Of Boxing Inc. is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides the youth of Philadelphia with a positive outlet through the sport of amateur boxing. Boxing, also known as pugilism, instills work ethic, discipline, dedication, and commitment in individuals. United States Of Boxing is a program that is in direct response to the growing number of young people that are either falling through the cracks at school, having problems at home, and/or are already entangled with the juvenile court system. The program aims to target those youth who would otherwise be swept into the juvenile court system. United States Of Boxing trains youth with hopes of keeping them off the streets and in the gym. Through boxing Philadelphia youth are able to follow through on a path to adulthood with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
The goal of this program is to identify youths who are having a turbulent transition into adulthood and offer a positive support system to avoid the pitfalls that can derail their lives. Our goal is to empower the young person to make positive changes in his/her life, to get and keep our youth on the right track and on the right path. Coaches and trainers serve as mentors, improving the young person’s confidence and hopefulness. They encourage goal-setting, self discipline, and skill development. Our trainers and coaches are positive influences in the youth’s lives and developmental role models for youth looking for direction. Sometimes it is as easy as a young person identifying with the coach, trainer, or mentor rather than a person involved in criminal or destructive activities. It takes a tremendous proactive effort to assist at-risk youth in redirecting their lives, but we strongly believe we are very capable of doing just so.
United States Of Boxing also focuses on education. United States Of Boxing creates a learning environment that is an invaluable resource to young people. We plan to offer school, GED tutoring, and more. Through repeated failures in the classroom and the development of destructive habits, at-risk youth have lost faith in the possibilities that await them if they are successful in putting their lives together. To accomplish this goal, young people must be in a caring, inclusive learning environment that promotes their best effort and reinforces personal respect. The Philadelphia School District has also made gigantic cuts in the sports and after school programs it once offered- where others continue to invest in them. This robs urban youth, especially urban girls, of the opportunity for physical activity, coaching, being part of a team, learning skills, and substantial time away from negative recreation; (drugs, violence or sexual activities).
Clinical studies show that sports and recreation programs can help youth establish lifelong, healthy, physical activity patterns. Regular physical activity can ward off life-threatening diseases; reduce feelings of depression and anxiety; help control weight and obesity; build and maintain healthy bones, muscles, and joints, according to the President’s Council on Physical Fitness. The youth in the city’s core must have the opportunity for a successful start in education and sport regardless of age, race, gender, family composition, income or community. In response to this significant disparity, United States Of Boxing has been created to provide the sports program necessary for Philadelphia youth to have equal opportunity for sports. United States Of Boxing utilizes boxing and its programs to promote healthy development and education in youth.
Community is another big focus of United States Of Boxing. Our youth are involved in many projects that give back to their community. This is very important for us - it has been shown that people feel much more fulfilled and take much more pride in their communities knowing they had a contributing role to play, rather than participating as a spectator. We teach our youth that the universe likes to serve back what you give. We hope to inspire our youth to be the best version of themselves; we hope to encourage and empower through community. As Gandhi once said, "(Sometimes) the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." It has been shown that even after just volunteering once, it gives you a good feeling so much so that you will want to do it again.
United States Of Boxing offers at-risk youth the opportunity to make a dramatic change in their lives. Youth who are overcoming stressors in their lives, such as poverty, discrimination, abusive situations, addictions, unstable homes, and academic life, are the primary focus of United States Of Boxing. Boxing and mentoring foster positive changes through goal setting, self-discipline, skill development, and friendship. Families too are also the focus- adult mentors are able to help youth work on solutions for their family stresses, and provide an objective but caring sounding board. As a result, many youth and their families report improved relations at home. Ultimately, United States Of Boxing aims be a critical social support system to at-risk youth. United States Of Boxing hopes to decrease the destructive behavior in the community caused by at-risk youth.
United States Of Boxing is much more than simply boxing. It is a community center, a positive and safe place for the youth of Philadelphia. We strive to make positive changes in the lives of adolescents - and teach them to take pride in what they accomplish. For many the boxing gym becomes their second home and their second family, but for some it may be their only home and only family that they can count on.

"There are two lasting bequests we can give to our children. One is roots. The other is wings."-Pulitzer Prize Winning Editor, Hodding Carter Jr.
