Study Abroad to Tokyo, Japan

Donation protected
Dear Family and Friends,

My name is Joel Addison Fuller and I’m a junior at Butler University. I’m an Art + Design Major and a Digital Media Production Minor. I have been accepted into the Temple University Japan study abroad program for the academic year of 2014-2015. This trip will give me the opportunity to learn to become independent, experience a new region, meet new people, and establish an identity for myself.

Since my arrival at Butler University I pushed myself academically and socially on campus. I am an International Diversity Ambassador for study abroad students who arrive at Butler University. My job is to help international students get accounted to life here in the U.S. and on Butler’s campus. As a graphic designer I have helped design covers and logo designs for local artists, companies, campus newspaper, and musicians.

I am currently participating in the Butler Summer Institute program. The Butler Summer Institute is a program that lets me pursue my creative work that I am ready to produce, while being mentored by a faculty member. I am doing research over the summer at Butler creating my own graphic novel series titled, “Xavian.” My goal is to publish my graphic novel and grow an international audience during my time in Tokyo, Japan.

What stood out for me about the Temple University-Japan program was the opportunity to study abroad in Tokyo, Japan. Going abroad by myself will help me immerse more in the culture and grow more. Many people ask me why I am interested in studying in Japan. I tell them I yearn to experience a new culture and challenge myself in a country that not many people study abroad in. I want to take my artistic skills I have learned in the classroom and apply them in the real world. What better way to apply my knowledge to the real world than to travel to Tokyo, Japan!

Most people cannot say they have lived in another country. As an artist, I want to go to Japan to better my style of art, and broaden my cultural horizon. I wish to put my name out there in the world and, as a college student, I need to take advantage of this opportunity.

With your donation you can help me reach my goal of $6000 goal and help me experience this exciting opportunity in Japan this year. I will leave on August 26th and return on August 25th. I will accept any and all donations throughout the year.
