Todd Warren's Liver Transplant

Donation protected

Thank you for taking the time to consider being a part of Todd's GoFundMe campaign.  He knows that without the Lord and the support of family and friends, he would not be the person that he is today.

As most of Todd's friends know, he has overcome challenge after challenge throughout his life, especially in regard to his health.  He is so grateful to the Lord and to those of you who have prayed for and supported him.  This support has been a big part of why he continues to strive to live life to the fullest despite his many aches, pains and surgeries along the way.

If you have known Todd for any length of time, you have seen him (usually wearing Giants colors!) before, during or after cleaning at church or his apartment building.

Because of his current liver disease, breathing is difficult for him, but he keeps working, even though the work that he does is physically demanding.  Cleaning and building maintenace is how he supports himself financially, and how he will continue to do so for as long as he is able (and as long as his doctors give him the green light).

He takes pride in being able to provide for himself and to give back to the Lord.  I remember Todd going to school a few years back in hopeful anticipation of preparing himself for an less physically demanding occupation and not having as long of a commute on public transportation.  He studied hard in the evenings and did great in his classes, but due to his health issues, he was not able to continue his learning.

Unfortunately, Todd's liver disease has progressed to the point in which doctors have told him that he is in need of a liver transplant.  In addition to that news, he found out that the transplant costs were an overwhelming $500K, and he did not have significant medical insurance coverage.  To make a very long story short, Todd worked incredibly hard with several hospital administrators to secure two types of medical insurance that will cover the costs of his transplant as well as almost all of the medication that he will need before and after the operation.

As a result of this insurance coverage, he was put on the transplant waiting list in August 2014, and his medical team estimated a potential transplant date in January 2016.  (***UPDATE:  As of April 6, 2015, Todd is back on the active waiting list because of this campaign raising the money for his medications! His status was switched to inactive in early March 2015 due to his lack of funds.)

In early 2015, Todd also persisted in finding additional supplemental insurance programs in order to begin taking Harvoni to treat his Hepatitis C Virus (HCV).  Harvoni would have cost him $24K out of pocket for a six-month supply.  After finding coverage, he began taking the medication and at his last check-up in March, HCV was already not detected in his bloodwork!  (This is especially significant news because the virus will not spread to his transplanted liver.)

It is miraculous to me that Todd is now facing the possibility of having a liver transplant that initially looked impossible to consider because of the costs.  I hope that you will join him in thanking the Lord for opening doors and avenues for him to be almost fully covered for the procedure!

Finally, there is one last set of cost hurdles that Todd needs to overcome.  (1) He needs to be able to prove that he can pay for a six-month supply of an anti-rejection medication.  (2) He will not be able to work for approximately three months after his transplant .  The money that he earns by working currently covers his very basic needs such as groceries.  While Todd is already saving and doing what he can by selling personal items like collectible comic books, he could really use the help of his family and friends to defray some or all of the cost of the medication and to help support him after the surgery.

========================================
- Anti-rejection medication: $3,000
- Salary for three months (from cleaning): $1,500
- Additional estimated medical costs, e.g. co-pays, personal medical supplies: $500
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Grand total: $5000
========================================

Todd has been very careful in considering these costs and I have been so blessed to see how conscientious he has been since his friends Peggy Martinez, Kirill Mogilev and Bert Castro suggested getting Todd's community involved in helping him financially.

Hopefully, once the campaign goal of $5000 is reached, any additional donations will go intoTodd's savings account for future medical costs.  [Update: April 18, 2015, at the suggestion of friends and early supporters, the campaign goal was raised to $10,000 in anticipation of additional unforeseen medical costs and the possibility of Todd not being fully able to return to work after three months.]

It is exciting to see him have a carefully thought out goal in mind.  It is wonderful to see his community come around him to show him that he is LOVED and cared for by so many.

Todd believes in the power of prayer and is secure in the call of God's people to love one another.

Thank you so much for your love for Todd and for taking the time to visit his campaign.  He will be so grateful for any contribution that you decide you are able to give.  There is not a prayer or donation amount that is too small.

Please know that if you are not in the position to donate at this time, Todd has stressed that he appreciates prayers even more than financial giving.

To those of you who have already given Todd encouragement, prayer and advice (*you know who you are*), he is so grateful for each and every one of you and he told me that he "gives God all the glory!"
