Prayers for Ty!

Ty Sanford is a 5 year old boy who was diagnosed with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). its a brain tumor located on the brain stem. This kind of tumor is inoperable and incurable.

FACTS ABOUT DIPG:
The tumors can’t be removed surgically because the tumor cells are all intermixed with the normal cells in the brainstem that are so crucial for functions like breathing.

It mostly effects children between the ages of 5-10.

10% Survive two years.

Less than 1% Survive 5 years.

Chemo and radiation therapy only provide short term therapy before it grows back and makes the tumor more agressive.

Symptoms include double vision, inability to close the eyelids completely, dropping one side of the face, and difficulty chewing and swallowing. These symptoms usually worsen rapidly because the tumor is rapidly growing.

Ty was diagnosed with this monster in late April of 2015. after much consideration, we thought it would be best to take Ty home and let him enjoy the rest of his life. His parents (Ryan and Rebecca) both stopped working due to having to provide 24 hour care for Ty while taking care of his two little brothers both under the age of 2.

Ty was like any other 5 year old kid. He loved to play outside and run around, and most importantly, chase after his younger brother Liam. Buzz and Woody were his best pals, while Spider-Man was his favorite Superhero.

Ty had created a bucket list with his mother so that they could do all of the things that Ty wanted before he died. Ty was able to go to Monster Jam and got a plaque with all of the driver's autographs on it. Make-A-Wish sent him to Disney in late May where he got to meet Buzz, Woody, Spider-Man, and the Minions. After that he got to go to a River bandits game where he got to throw the first pitch! He also met his new favorite, Rascal, the River bandits mascot! Then he spent a week at the Dells. He went to Build-A-Bear, rode a firetruck, a police car, and even in a helicpoter!

June 15, 2015 the Kewanee Mayor declared it "Ty Sanford Day."

Ty was made an honorary Walmart Driver, a Firefighter, and a Police Officer.
