REPEAT (BRUTAL) CANCER FIGHT...

As Shelby Harrington-Arroyo began her freshman year at San Pasqual High School, she was diagnosed with A.L.L. Leukemia.  She was so thrilled, so excited for high school... and so heartbroken at having her Freshman year "stolen".  She fought hard through two and a half years of intensive treatment and by last March 2016, she was in remission!  Through GoFundMe and so many incredible, generous people we raised over $46000 to help with medical expenses!

It is beyond difficult to start up a second fundraising round, asking for generous donations yet again, but sometimes life throws curves that take you places you didn't see coming (a first time much less a second time).

Last September, as her SENIOR Year began, Shelby relapsed :(  Right after Homecoming, she was admitted back into Rady Children's Hospital to begin her 2nd Round against cancer... and almost immediately, she was hit with a Mucor infection (extremely lethal - only 20% of patients survive Mucor). and within 1 week she was literally fighting for her life - cancer was no longer even a thought.  She underwent 16 surgeries between Oct 3 and Thanksgiving (her 17th birthday), THREE of which were BRAIN surgeries. By nothing less than a series of miracles and the magic seems to be   Shelby, she has survived.  Truly, a genuine full-tilt MIRACLE.

Shelby has been hospitalized  now for almost half a yearWe are just NOW beginning her cancer treatment .  She needs a bone marrow transplant, which she is undergoing preparation for now (r-e-a-l-l-y  not fun). But she is hanging in there and March 8 is the target date for transplant! Her 12-year old younger brother is her donor.

When Shelby returned to school after Round 1, she was her "old self" magnified.  Honor roll student, vibrant and involved. She had just started working at her first job. She and one of her closest friends were elected President and Vice President of ASB.  Her Senior Year was all planned and it was going to be a wonderful, unforgettable time!  ALL of it has been hijacked by this 2nd Round, compounded by the Mucor infection and bombardment of surgeries.  What she'shas been through is impossible to describe... yet, Shelby's attitude and courage are truly amazing! And so is everyone who has been standing by her throughout the fight! She could not ask for better support

Shelby's mom had to leave work in last October, staying at Shelby's side and playing a critical role in her care throughout this intensely difficult fight.  Needless to say, money is now (extremely) tight.   All the WONDERFUL family, friends, coaches, teams and teachers who donated to Shelby's 1st Round Fund made a difference we will never be able to repay! Again, it is beyond difficult to start up a second  fundraising round and ask for generous donations again, but...

Anyone moved to help by donating to Shelby's cause/fundraiser - no matter how small the donation - we THANK YOU!  Help TEAM SHELBY -- she's SO WORTH IT and You're APPRECIATED beyond words... God Bless you!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
