On October 29th, Hurricane Sandy hit the
NorthEast coast of America.
The biggest devastation and the most deaths occurred in Staten Island, NY, one
of the 5 boroughs of New York City.
Our church, St. George, is located on Cedar Grove Avenue in Staten Island. On that day the New Dorp Beach
community was one of the hardest hit and sustained millions of dollars in
damages. Most residents will qualify for FEMA aid but unfortunately
for us, our church is a non-profit which falls under a business and
FEMA does not give any aid to businesses.
Our current damages have been estimated to be $175,000 to rebuild. The youth of the church have taken
it upon themselves to use the power of social media and do what we can to reach
out to our extended families, friends and communities for help.
Whether you go to a church, a temple, a synagogue, mosque or a gurdwara, most of us have a place we can go to, to find peace in this crazy world. For us this was St. George. A 2nd home some might say, a place where everyone knows everyone, a place we have all grown up in and grown to love. And for the first time in 34 years our church family has been displaced...
The children & the young adults of St.
George are being very ambitious with a goal of raising $50,000 but
we believe it can be done. We are reaching out to everyone we know to help us
rebuild our church and our community. Without our community and neighbors
our church is nothing. That is why 50% OF ALL MONEY collected will
go directly to help our neighbors and our community who have been terribly affected by Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island. Between
Project Hospitality, The Borough President’s Fund and other great local
initiatives that we have looked into, we know the money will stay in Staten
Island to help those who really need it.
Please help our cause in raising money for
our church and for our neighbors and community by using the link above to
donate whatever you can, anything helps whether it be $5 $25 or $100...don’t
forget all donations are Tax-Deductible. (If you need a receipt or have
any questions please don’t hesitate to message us through the contact button
below or email us at HelpSaintGeorge@gmail.com)
