Help Us Support New Police Recruits
On October 27th community leaders and relatives of Officer Melvin Santiago (posthumously promoted to Detective), met in Jersey City to establish a charitable fund to assist new police recruits who reside in urban communities and are experiencing financial hardships to purchase the mandatory equipment recruits need to enter the police academy.
During this organizational meeting, a moment of silence was observed in honor of Detective Santiago and Officer Christopher Goodell, a Waldwick police officer, both officers killed in the line of duty just days apart from each other.
Agueda Santiago, the President of the Fund and Aunt of the late Detective Santiago said, “In my heart of hearts, I know that the Detective Melvin Santiago’s Dream Fund for New Recruits will be helping young men and women who have a dream of joining the police force to serve and protect our communities with great distinction, a heart of service and the ability to serve as role models for our children and communities...just like Melvin did."
The need for such a Fund is evident as a new recruit must pay for a laundry list of items and equipment that when tallied could cost a recruit nearly $3,000.00, becoming cost prohibitive for some of the bright young men and women interested in a law enforcement career. The Fund’s goal is to provide these recruits with a helping hand to assist them live their dreams of becoming law enforcement officers.
Your donation will help us support 10 or more new police recruits.
Grateful for your support,
Detective Melvin Santiago's Dream Fund for New Recruits, Inc.
