A message from Roseann:

"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend." Melody Beattie

It is important, today, to express my gratitude for a year filled with people who sustained me through the most difficult physical and emotional time in my life. I am grateful to Shores, the civilian who ran in when he could have turned away, grateful for Shana and Mike, as well as the police and firemen who risk their lives every day. I'm grateful for the doctors, nurses, aides, physical therapists, occupational therapist and everyone involved in treating me at MGH and Spaulding. I am grateful for the family, friends (old and new) and strangers who have given their love & support over the last year through thick and thin. It is so much that I am not sure I can repay, other than offering my deepest, most sincere expression of thankfulness and gratitude for all that has been done for me and my fellow survivors. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Roseann

Matty and his crew have been wonderful to Roseann this past year and we are so grateful for their support!

Roseann Sdoia was severely injured as a spectator at the Boston Marathon on 4/15/13. Roseann suffered serious injuries as a result of the explosions and has lost a leg above the knee. She has undergone several surgeries; first, to stabilize her and perform life saving measures and also to remove shrapnel from her abdomen. Surgery was required to remove a portion of a tree that became a projectile and seriously wounded her left leg. And most traumatic, the amputation of her right leg and burns covering portions of her body. It will be a long journey of recovery, both physically and emotionally but Roseann is a fighter. She has an infectious personality and loves Boston with all her heart. She is a true Bostonian, living in the city and being one of the most loyal sports fans I know! She went to the Red Sox game with some friends and then walked over the the finish line after the game - as she has done consistently for years past. This year was different, though, as we all know it ended in two horrific explosions with three dead and many seriously injured. I went to high school and college with Roseann. We were also sorority sisters together; so we have been friends for over 30 years! Please help shine the light of kindness, strength and support on Roseann by making a donation of any amount if you can. We love Ro and want her to know that we are all here for her - whether we are friends, family or strangers. Please feel free to donate in the memory of a loved one whose name will help inspire Roseann through her treatment and recovery. Please keep all the victims in your prayers. The gifts donated to Roseann on this site will be transferred to Enterprise Bank for Roseann to use for all expenses incurred due to this tragic event. If you prefer to send a check, please make checks payable to:
Roseann Sdoia Recovery Fund

Thank you!

I spent all night along from overseas, catching news about what happened. And I put this page on bookmarks from the first day it appears. A great and strong hug to you!

Roseann, sorry you're having a rough time getting a new socket. I hope under the new healthcare law that insurance companies are required to cover more than one prosthetic and more than one cosmetic cover.

It is with great pleasure that the friends, families and supporters of the 2013 Barrington Grip n Rip Softball tournament we were able to mail in checks totaling $1355 dollars towards Roseann's recovery fund from the sale of headbands at the tournament. Our thoughts are with you as continue down the path of healing. You are an inspiration!

Rosann, I saw an article on the Washington Post website about cosmetic prosthetics and you're concern regarding costs. A few years ago I told a friend of mine about the L.I.S.A. created by the FDR Center specifically for women. She got one and stopped using her C-Leg she loved it so much. The website is fdrcenter.com (I hope that doesn't get blocked),

Congratulations Rosann! The Genium leg should make it a lot easier to do what you enjoy doing once you get used to it. BTW, about the crutches, they have better ones for when you do need to use them. I'm sure your PT can tell you about them. One woman who is a cancer survivor invented a pair of shock absorbing crutches. Also there are companies that make non-slip tips for crutches.

After reading your story on Runners World, all I can hope is that you get as back to normal as possible and someday run Boston, as many of your fellow runners hope to do. With your hard work and determination, I know you can do it :)
