My husband and I met five years ago, when I was on a trip to the US. He is American and I am Australian.
My visa ran out, and I went back to Australia. I had accidentally overstayed my visa, and would not be able to return to America in the near future, so my husband packed up and moved to Australia to be with me.
It has been our goal to move back to America, although it was difficult to realise it, when it took nearly three years for my husband to be granted residency in Australia. During that time, I have supported the both of us on a modest wage.
We bit the bullet in August 2013, sending my husband and dog to the US, where he would secure work and a home. We applied for my visa, and it was granted pending my husband getting work.
Well, he got work, and we have a little bit of money in the bank to support me while I seek work. We submitted the last of our paperwork to the visa office, only for them to determine that we need to resubmit a stack of updated forms, for me to complete a new medical (which cost a bomb) and to wait final processing. So, unfortunately, we are facing at least another month apart, and that's being optimistic.
The problem now is raising the cash for my airfares.
I need to travel from Sydney, Australia to Santa Fe, New Mexico. I have estimated $2,000 for the flights, including the fees I will need to pay for an extra bag on the flight from LAX to Santa Fe. We're scraping the pennies together, but the money dwindles away more each week that we're apart and paying separate living costs.
I don't have much to offer in return for your generosity, other than my eternal thanks. I have very good administrative skills, so if anyone wants to make a donation in return for help with a job application, essay or text proof-reading, please contact me.
