Expenses After Emergency Surgery

Donation protected

On April 22nd, our father went to the hospital because he was having chest pains and trouble breathing. They admitted him and scheduled a heart cath, but there was too much scar tissue so it turned out unsuccessful. But he was told that he would have to be on an oxygen tank for the rest of his life.

He was released from the hospital a few days later and within 12 hours, he went back to the ER with a terrible pain in his stomach.

On April 26th, He was readmitted, and they discovered that there were perforated holes in his intestines and he was told after a few days of being rehospitalized that he was severely septic and that he would have to have an emergency colostomy surgery to save his life.

He survived the surgery and has been in ICU for 16 days. For a week, he was hooked up to a vent that had to breathe for him, he had to have a temporary ballard system down his throat, as well. He currently has a feeding tube going down his nose and into his stomach, a tube coming from his stomach and leading out of the other side of his nose to drain his stomach acids, a pic line, a surgical drain, and so many other tubes and wires connected to him.

He gets breathing treatments every 4 hours and is hooked up to a BiPAP machine every night for his breathing. He is also hooked up to the BiPAP every other hour during the day and during his breathing treatments.

He has a large opening/wound near his stoma where they had to enter and perform his surgery. It's a huge wound that will require extensive wound care. They had it stapled but had to undo most of the staples due to infection setting in.

He is going to need constant care and he has no insurance to help with any of it.

We've also learned that he will have to use a walker for the rest of his life, with that possibly turning into having to use a wheelchair instead because he has been having a very tough time with his physical therapy after his surgery, despite the fact that he is trying very hard, complying with the doctors and therapists, and even pushing himself.

His surgery and hospital bills alone are adding to about $200k so far. We will have to pay about $500 per month for him to be on oxygen and about $400 every month just to take care of his new stoma with all the proper cleaning supplies and colostomy bags. We are unsure of how much the wound care will cost.

On top of him needing constant care,
We're also going to need to get him a walker with a seat attached to it, as well as a wheelchair, and several other medical supplies, and equipment!

Once he is healthy and strong enough to get out of ICU, he will be moved to a regular floor for care, and once he is healthy enough for discharge, he will need to immediately go to a rehab facility, which we don't have the money for. We are told that rehab can cost anywhere from $300 or more per day.

Our mother has had to take a leave of absence from her job to be with our father. So she won't be able to bring home a paycheck for a while to help with his medical expenses, and needs, so as of right now, they have ZERO income coming in.

This all came very suddenly. Within a matter of days, all of our lives have changed forever. And we've seriously realized that it's a lot to come to terms with all at once. We need help.

Please, anything will help us out. And it will be so greatly appreciated. If you can donate a little money or even some of the medical supplies we'll need would be so incredible, and helpful. If not, sharing this would help out so so much and we are so grateful. Thank you so so much.
