On October 31st Paul sustained a very serious spinal cord injury that damaged his C-5 and C-6 vertebrae. He immediately underwent surgery to remove the herniated disk that was pressing against his spine. Although the surgery successfully removed the disk, the injury has left him paralyzed from the chest down. Paul is now in an intensive care unit battling pneumonia, a high fever and unable to breathe on his own.
The long-term prognosis is uncertain at this time, but his road to recovery will be a long one and there are significant expenses associated with his recovery and his inability to work. The one thing we know about Paul is that he is a fighter and has always had the “fighting Irish” spirit. He is determined to get well and the family has appreciated all the thoughts and prayers sent his way.
In the same week that Paul had his injury, his wife Suzanne was diagnosed with breast cancer. This sad turn of events is an enormous blow to the family. Suzanne’s will have to undergo extensive treatment and it is unsure whether she will be able to do any of her beloved midwifery work in the near future. Suzanne is an independent midwife and was not insured for this type of event. Needless to say, Suzanne and Paul are worried about the future of their three wonderful children Etienne, Julian and Ryan.
We are therefore setting up this Go Fund Me page to help support Paul, his wife Suzanne, and their three boys during this difficult time. Paul’s recovery will involve months in a rehab facility and any donations will go directly to Paul’s family to pay for their living and certain medical expenses. If you have any questions please leave your email address in the comments and we will respond ASAP.
Thank you all for your love and continued support of Paul and his family.
