Please Help Paul & Carzel
Paul & Carzel Fourtner, long time Steamboat Springs residents and personal friends of mine and many more, need your help. 19 months ago Carzel a vibrant women in her early 50's had her 1st seizure. In the 19 months since then this silent monster attacking her has taken her from a fun loving women who loved her horse, rodeo, riding her Harley and her friends and family to someone who has lost over 90% of her cognitive memory and struggles to form 1 word replies. Though she has gone through countless batteries of tests and treatment doctors have yet to find the cause or the cure for this rapid decline. Throughout this, Paul has stayed by her side trying desperately to keep his full time job and provide 24 hr care for Carzel. She can't be left alone and with help from his brother and a few friends they have taken shifts for the past year and a half to provide this. The stress on Paul has been immense. Yesterday Paul & Carzel's world came crashing down around them when a fire destroyed their home of over 25 years and all of their possessions. Fortunately they got themselves and their 2 dogs out relatively unharmed other than some smoke inhalation and a small burn on Carzel's foot. When I saw Paul at the hospital he just looked at me and said " I'm homeless, this is all I have left" as he stood there in a t-shirt and sweatpants holding his cell phone, "I don't even have a charger". They are presently homeless and possibly facing bankruptcy.
I can't imagine what it is like to lose everything you have, Can You?
