The Orlando Pagan Lending Library is a not for profit, privately owned library available to all Pagans, Witches, and their friends residing in the Orlando Florida Area!
The OPL Library started because quite frankly, I had so many books that I never used, but I didn’t want to just get rid of them because I love books, so I came to the idea that because I have so many students who always need books for the local meetups and coven classes, why not just lend them out? So, the library came into being. I made little membership cards on my computer, created documents and forms, and started seeking donations!
Currently our library contains around 200 titles (only some are pictured!) We only have duplicates of 1 book so these are all unique titles about subjects ranging from Wicca, Druidry, Thelema, Witchcraft, Tarot, Astrology and more!
Things took off...kind of. I received so many book donations from some lovely people, but I found that I ran into some issues.
1. Space! Running a library, even a small one like mine, is very space consuming! Part of the funds raised will be used to help me purchase some more bookshelves! Bigger and better ones with lots of room!
2. Money! Things cost money. I have a full time job that pays my bills, but I need help!
There are so many things I need to raise funding for!
~~~~~~The majority of the proceeds from this fundraiser will be put to great use! How?
~~~~~~~~~Well firstly I am going to purchase my Domain name for my website, as well as the server space so I own it myself.
~~~~~~~~~Then I am going to need to be able to get laminating done for the membership cards!
~~~~~~~~~I have to print off registration forms and I don't have a printer so off to a Copy shop I go!
~~~~~~~~~Finally all the remaining proceeds will be used to help me start the Orlando Pagan Library Outreach, a program that raises money and Altar materials for Pagans in need. A Pagan in need can be anyone who meets certain criteria such as:
~~Incarceration
~~House Fire
~~Hurricane Damages
~~Loss of Employment
~~~~A Board of Directors meets when an application for assistance is received and the Board decides on cases based on need.
The Outreach will also be working with local officials and Religious groups in order to spread education and tolerance towards non-traditional Religions! (projected to begin 2015)
As you can see, any donations you give to the OPL Library will go towards creating a better, stronger and more educated Pagan community here in Orlando Florida.
