PROM QUEENS

Donation protected
Who: Queens That Serve will be hosting our second annual Prom Glam Makeover  for under privelged youth in the Washington DC/ Metro Area & New York City.  Queens That Serve is an organization geared towards uplifting young women through faith, fashion & beauty.

What: The goal of this event is to provide all of the necessary items for a young teenage girl to go to prom free of cost! Prom is apart of the American Dream, although many people dream of going, the reality is some can not afford the production behind it. For the average teenage girl to go to prom it may cost up to $500 on her look, alone.

DRESS: $150-250
SHOES: $80-150
ACCESSORIES: $50-100
HAIR & MAKEUP:$200

This year we will be collecting dresses for our girls and also providing them with a full package of free hair, makeup and styling services.

Help us help them by donating $25 dollars to this cause! This year we will be making over girls who are in need of assistance in the urban cities of New York & Washington DC!

Why?
Going to the Prom is apart of the American Culture. The harsh reality is that a lot of teens in America aren't able to go due to their socioeconomic status. We would like to send as many girls to prom cost free this year and make this event a memorable one for them.
Prom is really expensive, yet it is a milestone in a teenagers life and everyone looks forward to going! We want to empower these young ladies through this moment to show that people do care about them!

When: May- June 2015

How: We need your help to raise money to sponsor a Queen to go to prom! We are asking for $25 Dollars which will go towards a special girl's prom experience this year!

My name is Larissa Von! I am  many things but most of all I am a woman of God called to do his work of service. Being the artsy and freespirited type of course my service would be in an area that I am gifted in.  I am a professional Makeup Artist  & Cosmetologist from Silver Spring Maryland.  I currently live in Brooklyn New York, I came to New York to follow my dreams. While on my quest in Gotham City one of my dreams was birthed
"Queens That Serve". Queens That Serve is a ministry organization geared towards uplifting young women through Faith, Fashion & Beauty ( A girls #musthaves) .

The idea of QTS began when I was in College at Penn State, I studied Human Developement and Family Studies with hopes of becoming an Art Therapist and starting my own non-profit org. After I graduated college I decided I was going to become a Makeup Artist in hopes that everything else would fall into place.  I was going to become my own version of an Art Therapist! Many people may view makeup & hair as something superfictial but you have no idea how holistic and theraputic it can actually be.

When I first  started my career the dots of my life started to make sense. At 11 years old I was hospitalized for having  Carcinoid Tumor. At the time I had no clue I was just fighting to stay alive! While in the hospital I was hooked up to so many machines (as you can imagine), one device in particular helped me with life today. I had an oxygen mask taped to my nose with surgical tape. If you know anything about surgical tape you know that it does not move and is suppose to be removed in a specific way. Well, not in my case.  The nurse yanked the oxygen mask off my face and there went the skin on my nose. So, not only was I hooked up to all these machines and getting blood drawn 3 times a  day, I was also left with a wound on my nose; which would then turn black.

After a month in the hospital it was finally time to go home! But I came home looking different then how I left. I had an gnarly scar on my nose that I wasnt born with... For years the scar was something I didnt want people to see, so I covered it up with makeup. I fell for the magic that I just discovered. From that moment on I would practice covering up that scar to perfection, for years no one had a clue but my family. But for me I was able to live freely with confidence , without being questioned about the scar on my face.  I was able to heal in peace. Makeup helped me get through a hard time. It was never a thing of vanity but more like a bandaid on a wound.

It took me around 13 years to discover the PURPOSE that came out of my PAIN. So today at 25 I'd like to spread my gift of making people feel beautiful despite their circumstances of everyday life. If you look good, you FEEL GOOD and that is just the truth!

This Prom Season we are making over a group of underprivelged girls and sending them off to prom as PROM QUEENS! Queens That Serve will be providing hair, makeup and styling services to young ladies in need! Help us help them! <3
