Oscars fight with Sarcoma Cancer

4 years ago I was hit with Sarcoma Cancer. I've had 4 surgeries to remove these massive tumors over the years.

Unfortunately these tumors have left me disabled and causing lots of issues. I keep getting blood clots in my lungs, paralyzed from my right knee down, a tube coming out of my back to drain my right kidney.

I just had a basketball size tumor removed in January but 5 new tumors started growing just 1 month later. Chemotherapy is no longer working. Radiation can't be done in the area these tumors are growing and surgery is no longer an option.

This cancer is very aggressive, my last tumor grew from the size of an egg to a 10 pound basketball in 2-3 months. These new tumors are growing just as fast.

I have now started hospice: end of life care. Since theres little research being done with Sarcoma Cancer.

I am hoping to raise some money to help with funeral cost would be greatly appreciated. Also would like to raise awareness for this disease.

This fight with cancer not only affects me but my family is also hit with the daily strougles. My main supporter and best friend/whife Heather has been there for me since day 1. I would not be here today if she wasn't in my life.

For almost 1 year Heather would work 60 hours a week, she gets home from work at 10pm then naps for 2-3 hours drives 6hours to my clinical trials and get there at 8am.  Then after my chemotherapy treatments were completed around 3-4 pm drive 6hours to get back home around 10-11 pm, then get up at 5am to get ready for work. We did this 3x a month for almost a year.

5 12hour shifts at work then 3 hous of sleep and 12hours of driving really hit us hard.  With all the meds I take and mostly vomiting the whole trip I was never any help with driving. For months my tumors kept shrinking until my CT-SCAN in October revealed the treatments were no longer working.  The cancer became immune to the treatment and the tumors ballooned growing faster than ever. In 2 months I looked like a pregnant man with a 10 pound tumor the size of a basketball.

This was the 2nd time I've had a massive tumor removed.  My 1st tumor was about the same size. But much more complicated to take out.

In 2011 I was having issues with back pain and leg pain. Kept going to my doctors about the pain but they were worried about my high blood pressure.  I was at 180/120 blood pressure.  I had no clue what this meant, but I was is serious danger of having a stroke or heart attack. they kept asking what drugs I was on..... I didn't even drink alcohol or smoke. Kept giving me blood pressure medication and it would not go down.

The tumor had grown so large it was pressing against both kidneys causing kidney failure, high blood pressure and growing in my sciatic nerve causing the pain.

I woke up one morning having trouble breathing.  I had developed a blood clot in my left lung. Heather rushed me to the ER were they finally discovered the tumor and what was causing all my issues.

I was at the county hospital in Martinez but the surgery required was to complicated. UCSF called and wanted to treat me.

My 1st surgery was very complicated.  The tumor was hard as cement and after 8 hours they almost closed me up and would have to call it. Unfortunately for my doctors when they decided to cut my ureter they didn't notice and artery and vein was also attached.  I was bleeding to death on the operating table. This forced another team of doctors to go in and repair the damage.  Which was almost a blessing.  While they were fixing the artery my surgeons found a way to remove the tumor.  But after 20 hours of surgery they had to chop off the tumor they successfuly got out which was about 90% of it.

Another issue about this 20 hour surgery was the whole time no one informed my wife about anything. 20 hours of surgey with no updates.

5 days later after a conference with many other experts my surgeons decided to open me back up and remove the final 10% of the tumor which took another 10 hours.

I woke up feeling like I got ran over by a truck. And unfortunately I couldn't feel my legs anymore. In a few days the strength in my left leg came back. But my right leg suffered lots of damage.  Because of the artery being cut they had to use a vein to repair it which caused low blood glow. Also the tumor in the sciatic nerve removed also did some damage because they had to cut and remove some of the nerves and caused my right leg to be paralyzed from the knee down. Most of my right leg is paralyzed from the hip down.  I still have a little more than half the function from the hip down to my knee.

At first the doctors didn't know if would ever walk again. But 2 years of physical therapy I went from a wheelchair to a walker, to crutches, to a cane.

This fight with Sarcoma has been a long hard fight and I'm not ready to quit. I have so many loved ones who need me around that's why I fight and will continue to fight for every precious day I get from here on out.
