Continued Nursing Home Care

I'm doing the page from the urgings of my friends. My father was diagnosed about four years ago with lung cancer, adenocarcinoma. He had surgery to remove the cancer and the upper right portion of his right lung shortly after. They really only gave him 18-24 months, but he has managed to pull out four years. The cancer has spread to other parts of his body, he's stage 4 and is really taking it's toll on him. He lives in Parkersburg WV where my sister lives. She has tried to do what she can to take care of him and help and I live two hours away and not able to help with his care the way I'd like. But it has progressed now to a point where he really needs full time professional care. His mind has wondered away, he's unable to standup from his favorite chair or walk on his own, take care of his hygiene, he's constantly short of breath and not hardly eating at all.  At the time of writing this, he was in a rehabilitation hospital, has been for about a week after being in a regular hospital for 3 days. They want to move him back to his home on his own. But in his condition, he'll never be comfortable. The rehab hospital doesn't want to really help placing him in a home because they may be pinged on their rating with insurances from sending him directly to a home. My sister and I don't really want to put him in a home, but at this stage of his life it's for the best. He's DNR and we just want to make him to be the most comfortable he can be. He's on Medicare and has some coverage with a supplimental insurance, but all that will only cover 20 days of stay in a nursing home. Anyone who has dealt with nursing homes knows, it's NOT inexpensive. We need some help and hope this might provide some. Funds we receive will go towards his nursing home care. If the end comes prior to using all the funds received, all funds remaining will be donated to American Cancer Society/Relay for Life. So please, if you're able, please help a Navy veteran live out his final time comfortably. THANK YOU!
